Casualties

Djinn stalked the London streets, smoke curling up from the garments he wore on his back. Scorch marks were left upon the cement where he had stepped.

His arrogant little spawn really tried his patience, at times. He had finally allowed the brat to leave to avoid killing the teenager.

That still meant that Djinn, the original Fire Demon, was feeling extremely peevish. A car's gas tank exploded as the demon passed it on the opposite side of the street. It was late night, few were wandering the streets. This did not suit Djinn's needs.

"HUMANS!" he roared in an inhuman voice, features distorting as his true form showed through his mask of humanity. "COME OUT, COME OUT, LITTLE MORTALS! LET'S HAVE SOME FUN!" The streetlamps and windows all along the block exploded. Djinn waited for unwitting prey to cross his path.

Ransom stepped out of the floo and dusted himself off. The ground under his feet shook and the caretaker heard angry shouts coming from outside the small shop. There were horrified screams.

"What in Merlin's name?"

Ransom drew his wand and hurried outside. It looked like a muggle bomb had gone off with debris littering the street. A man stood at the center of it all. He had to do something.

"Stop!"

A smile curled across Djinn's face as someone had the audacity to shout at him. Foolish mortal.

Slowly, he turned, red eyes glowing brightly in the darkened street.

"Stop, you say?" he said with a smirk. Another car exploded, its burning husk crashing through the front of a nearby shop. "And why would I do as you bid me?"

"I am only going to give you one warning. Stop or I'll make you."

Ransom knew that he was in trouble, but he was not going to let his fear show. If he was going to die then at least he would die trying to stop a demon from hurting innocent.

A low chuckle crossed the demon's lips, echoing in a manner that no human laugh could manage. Turning fully to face the wizard, Djinn tilted his head to one, almost thoughtfully.

"Warning received," he said genially, before his voice became hard. "But no one tells me what to do."

The man started to raise his wand and in the next moment, nothing remained of Ransom Ordinary but a putrid pile of smoldering ashes amid the clothes he once wore, the man's wand clattering to the ground.

Djinn's terror upon the muggle city continued.
