Divination: Lesson One | Upper Years Empty Divination: Lesson One | Upper Years

Sophia sighed. Seemed likely nearly all her students tended to drop her class after their first year. Perhaps, it was simply because they were older and less open to that which was not easily explained.

She reached for a piece of chalk on her desk, only to snatch her hand back as Magus pecked at her.

"Oi, now, laddie!" Sophia admonished crossly. "That's quite enough ay yer attitude today."

Magus croaked at her irritably, then fluttered to his perch in the corner.

"Bloody spyug," the woman muttered, grabbing the chalk. "Whatever has possessed ye, today?"

Having forgotten what she was going to write on the board, anyway, Sophia put said chalk in the lip of the chalkboard. Taking a seat behind her desk, she waited for her upper years.

Iris climbed the ladder leading to her favorite tower and classroom excitedly. She opened the trap door and her smiling face peeked in to view. She went up with one big push and greeted her mentor while skipping to reach her usual seat since last year,

"Hello, Professor! How's summer? It feels too good to be back again! Looking forward to the first lesson!" the happy lass turned to the rather hyper owl and greeted him too with a slight bow, "Oh hey Magus! What's up with you?"

OOC... He's a raven. And he's in a bad mood...

Sophia smiled back at her apprentice, her irritation with Magus (which was mutual, she could sense through their bond) momentarily forgotten.

"Welcome back, Iris," she greeted. "The summer was... a mix of good and bad, to be honest, though not for myself directly. And how was your summer? Good, I hope?

"Och. Bloody raven's been in a black mood all day," Sophia remarked. "Cannae fathom what has gotten into him."

Iris smiled back and sighed as she remembered her summer. It was still happy though. Even with the nightmares haunting her, it was still worth to be cherished since she was with her parents. Not to mention the fact that she was after all delighted to be visiting her original home in Texas, and meeting he rest of her mother's family.

"It was . . . fine." She said and forced a grin. She gave Magus an apologetic look and reassured the raven, "Oh. Then be better soon Magus. You don't want Sophia disappointed."

[OOC: I'm always making mistakes about Magus! LOL.]

Kenzi hopped into class as merrily as usual. She was a bit late, as usual. She had spent over three years here yet it was easy for her to get lost. The young Hufflepuff had that way about her, but she didn't mind.

    "Morning Professor Wyse!" she grinned.

"Good morning, lass," Sophia returned Kenzi's greeting.

"Well, as it seems th' rest ay your classmates cannae be bothered to show up this morning, I reckon we should start," she declared, rising from her seat.

Sophia was wearing her teaching robes - something she had seldom done in the past, choosing her wear skirts or slacks, instead. They were all too tight across her middle, now, though, even if she wasn't noticeably showing, just yet. Another couple of weeks, however, and she would be.

"Alright, now which ay you can tell me what we were learning at the end of last year?" she asked.

Iris waved at the third year and answered the professor's question. Everything was still fresh in her mind about the last term. From the beginning until the very last. Just like what she portrayed during her other lessons. She reckoned that they will continue on with the discussion that was left behind. A topic she was quite inactive and uneasy at. But now, her esteem seemed to be higher than that of last term.

"We learned about the two kinds of dreams. And maybe . . . what they were ought to tell. I can't remember exactly about the discussion. Since, you know."

The girl became uneasy again and that small hint of sensing the presence around her occurred to her within her mind. Her personal protection was withering again. As reasoned by her failure of reconciling enough confidence in herself. Some feeling of change and a new start. But whose emotion was it? There were only three people in the room then.

"Not a problem, Miss Frances, that answer is sufficient enough, and correct," Sophia assured the girl. "We did talk about dreams towards the end of last school year.

"Now, this year, I should like to start off on both a similar, yet different topic. Namely, visions. What can you ladies tell me about those?"

Iris nodded with relief and smiled at her mentor. Good thing she kept it that way and controlled herself from the emotion. She sighed and tried to answer at least the professor's question. Surely, she can relate to it and she knew something about that topic. One she was hoping to avoid. But you can't do that when you took up this subject and with Sophia around. That was indeed a pathetic thought she was telling herself continuously. She was here for a reason. And that is because of her gift. Or was that the right term in the first place?

"Visions can be about the future that can happen, or some encounters from the past. They would come up just suddenly and a message can be hidden behind them that is not clearly obvious. Something rather important and that can keep your mind wondering."

Iris stopped and didn't go on furthermore. She wouldn't want that much attention.

"Correct, Miss Frances," affirmed Sophia. "Now, what, exactly, are the similarities and differences between visions and dreams?"
