It was midnight, and for some reason or another, Evangeline had found herself in the common room again. She had picked up a muggle book from a book shop she had taken her sister to when she was on holidays. It was this strange thing called Twilight. It made no sense to Evie of course. She knew that vampires didn't sparkle when in the sun, and a wooden stake to the heart would kill any vampire in real life.
While she got to some sickly romantic part, that made Evie want to tear the book into little pieces, she heard a tapping on the window. Turning, much to her surprise, there was her auntie Sapphires small owl there. She let the tiny creature in and took the parchment paper out of his claws before giving him a treat that was on the table, probably left by one of the other people in her house. She opened the parchment slowly and started reading the letter that was seemingly from her other auntie, Adriana.
To my dear Evangeline,
Unfortunately I am not writing this letter to inform you about good news, it is actually the exact opposite. Your sister Maria, had decided she was going to go out for a walk, without me or your Aunt Saffie knowing, and she had been faced with her first uncontrollable burst of magic. She was in front of a group of muggles when this happened. They had beaten her badly, when we had realised she was missing and looked out to find her. She is in St Mungo's now, but it is unlikely she will survive. Please reply, with whether you want to be brought home or not. Me and Saffie are both deeply sorry.
Love from, Auntie Addie
No... NO! Evangeline's mind screamed, unable to comprehend what had just happened. Maria was the only thing in her life that was good. The only person who she could rely on, even though there was a five year age difference, and Maria was the only one who had never let her down. She has never done anything wrong to anybody! Evie's brain shouted, unable to make sense of the situation. For the first time since Evangeline was seven years old -when she killed her cat by the fire she created when angry- she cried and cried and cried. The poor girl didn't know when or if she was going to stop. She felt no need to, except saving her own pride, but none of that was important now. The only thing that mattered now was her dear sister, and nothing would change that.
