The Attack

Gwen stood at the entrance of the lair, her hand resting on the cold stone making up the entrance, the darkness inside looking like an ominous prison instead of the safe haven she usually associated the place with.

She was beginning to slip again. She could feel it. Looking back at the world around her- the trees, the open sky, the fresh air, the feeling of life all around her- Gwen gave a mental goodbye. She breathed in as deeply as she could, before stepping into the lair.

She had barely been walking for five minutes when it hit her like a brick wall. Her skull felt like it was being split open, and she staggered across the hallway, screaming at the top of her lungs. The girl finally hit the wall and slid down to the floor.

Curling up into a ball, she placed her head in her hands, her screams fading into pained moans, tears falling down her face.
