Strings

Ann walked briskly into the classroom, grinning. Once she entered she looked at the back of the door and started looking at the posters. She really wasn't paying attention to the classroom the first time might as well now. She then wandered over to where the music books were. She narrowed her eyes, scanning each of the book's titles and grinned as she found one about Stringed instruments. She sat down crossed-legged with her bag placed beside her; she started reading, waiting for class to start.

"Hello there, dear Antonette," Alec greeted the girl with a smile as he walked into Music class and sat down in front of her.

"What you reading?" he asked, squinting to look at the title, and grinned. "Strings, eh?"

Ann looked up and smiled "Heya Alec" she greeted before going back to reading.

She flipped the page just scanning the page "Well that is our lesson" she said, not looking up "Might as well read about it a bit"

He made his way towards the class. And slowly made his way there once there he made his way towards the way and leaned on it, His back on it as he glared at the two.

"Well done, Ms. DeMoivre," Basil praised coming into the classroom in charcoal grey trousers, a plum coloured button up, leather boots and an acoustic guitar strapped across his back. "It is always a good habit to brush up on your studies, especially if it is something I am going to be covering in class today."

With an idle wave of his hand to shut the door the rocker hopped up to sit on top of the desk and addressed his class. "If you would kindly put the book back on the shelf, Ms. DeMoivre, we can start the class and take five points for showing initiative," Basil said leaning forward slightly with his hands palm down on the desk. "Now who can tell me what they already know about strings before I start lecturing?"

Ann blinked then nodded curtly before placing the book back in it's proper place on the shelf. She looked back at the professor and smiled "Thank you professor" she said, nodding curtly. "Well sir, Strings are lengths of a flexible material kept under tension so that they may vibrate freely, but controllably. They can be made of nylon gut or steel and they may be either 'plain' or 'wound'." She bit her lip and closed her eyes trying to remember something she read and smiled as she opened them again "And there are different types of Wound Strings; There are roundwound, flatwound, and halfwound strings also knows as ground wound and pressure wound strings. The last type of Wound Strings is the Hexcore"

She coughed and rubbed her hand, blushing a bit. I hope i didn't say too much she thought.

Bloody show off how he wanted to show her off, was beyond him. He shook his head and sighed. Waiting for her to reply once she did he simply sighed and shook his head. And thought Well done. He finished thinking before clapping twice. And staying leaning on the wall in silent. Freaking, Show off that's all that came to his mind.

"Well done. Take another ten points for Prideaux," Basil said summoning an instrument from one of the lockers. "Now, stringed instruments stretch all the way back into ancient times. The paintings on the walls of Egyptian tombs depicted a harp used for funerals made with strings made of gut. In ancient Greece the god Apollo obtained his lyre from a young Hermes in exchange for stealing his cattle. The medieval times had such stringed intruments as the rebec, fiddle, citole, citern, and the gittern. Other string instruments that were the origins of modern instruments include the lute, dulcimer, viol, psaltery, and of course the hurdy gurdy or wheel fiddle."

Holding up the lyre in his hand the rocker continued, "Now the school has all of these instruments plus their modern descendants. At the end of the year you will each get to choose an instrument to be yours until the end of your school careers. At the beginning of fifth year after playing your instrument for the summer you will have the option of being able to switch your instrument for another. Are there any questions so far?"

Alec shook his head, grinning at Antonette as she continued reading. He saw Sithis come in and, moments later, the Professor.

He listened to Antonette's answer and the Professor's explanation, nodding slowly. "Sir, can we choose any instrument?" he asked.
