Personality: James is generally a kind individual, known for being rather quiet and shy among newer people; as a student, he is clever and quick-minded at the right times. He tends to shy away from people he doesn't know, however he's an easy friend to make-and once one is friends with James, he will always remain dedicated and loyal to them. Even in the most heated and uncomfortable of situations, James usually remains with a calm and collected demeanor, although even he has his uptight moments.
While on the outside, he acts happy and content; on the inside, he may be boiling in rage-the one downside of his calm demeanor. Seeming have a type of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde syndrome only when he becomes overly angered, James isolates himself at times in order to avoid snapping at people when upset, despite being usually able to contain his anger. When his new, darker side (Known for being troublesome and sly) takes over, James usually fails to remember exactly what he does in this stage until he reverts back to his usual calm demeanor. The effects of his syndrome remain, however, linking to James' habit of studying dark spells and curses, however he is hesitant to attempt them, knowing of their dark origins.
Aside from this odd syndrome, James is a wonderful friend, being the type to be "a shoulder to cry on". With the addition of his fear of vampires, James has Hemophobia; a fear of blood-his phobia is classified as severe due to the fact that he tends to faint at the sight of it unless he can manage to control himself.

Overall history: Born to a Wizard, Basil Otero and a Muggle, Elizabeth Otero, James was the firstborn of his family, the secondborn being his younger brother, Alois. Growing up together, James discovered his powers when he was aiding his father set the dinner table at the age of 12; in which the silverware and plates began floating in midair, then abruptly crashed on the floor. Declaired to have wizarding blood, James eagerly learned the pronounciation of basic spells from his father, who soon became unemployed and began devoting most of his life to the art of Haiku poetry rather than a full time job, therefore the family soon needing to depend on Elizabeth for money in order to keep the family from going broke.
Overtime, however, Elizabeth was diagnosed with cancer, resulting in her death three years later after a struggling battle. In turn, James isolated himself from his little brother and sank into a depressive state of mind, keepng more to the company of his father; however, this lead to the development of his syndrome, resulting in furious outbursts followed by confusion and apologizes. His father slipped into a similiar depressive state, minus the outbursts, changing from a calm, happy man to a quiet and unresponsive father, who began to sell his poems in order to put food on the table but otherwise barely interacted with his children.
A year or two later, James was reverted back to his general calm and collected demeanor, unlike his father, and came back into contact with his brother, Alois. Knowing his father wouldn't be of much help, James gladly taught Alois what his father had taught him over the previous, happy years, making sure to always be in the support of his brother. Soon, James had no choice but to leave his family to attend Hogwarts and leave his brother alone with his father, promising to keep in contact with Alois as often as he could.
