Karma looked from the handwritten notes scattered around the coffee table to the red fingerless gloves beside her. It was long after curfew, everyone was asleep, she was sure, and it was the perfect time to work.
To test or not to test, that was the question.
Her shoulders rolled in the leather jacket, her boots almost aching to be tried. What was the worst that could happen?
She stood and went toward the Fireplace, telling herself to start small. Start small...
Pulling on the fingerless gloves, Karma took a deep breath, stopping with her boots at the edge of the fire before kneeling down, reaching into the flames before slowly drawing her hand back out.
She eyed the fire resting on her palm, using her other hand to pet it. It seemed... playful, almost. Ignoring the fire now, she focused on the glove itself. It seemed to be holding up fine, and though she could feel the fire, she couldn't... she couldn't.... feel the heat.
She grinned, tossing the fire between her hands a few times before accidentally putting it out.
Gloves, success.
She tugged at her jacket, a grin playing across her face.
...Start small....
She stepped into the fireplace, amused at how the flames roared upward to try and burn her. She giggled slightly, crossing her legs to sit on the logs, eyeing the common room through the flames. Is this how Arsen felt?
She eyed her jacket now, careful not to take it off, before getting up and standing just outside of it, trying to pat down the fire. Instead, the fire caught on her hand, and her eyebrows furrowed. This could be a problem...
Unconcerned that she was, basically completely on fire, Karma shrugged and tried to pat out the flames on her sleeve, concerned that they, too, stuck to the hand she was trying to pat them out with.
This may be a slight design flaw.
A trickle of sweat slipped down the back of her neck, bringing her focus back to the inevitable. The temperature was coming back.
Balancing on the balls of her feet, Karma began to spin, faster and faster. Slowly the flames started to go out. She stopped spinning abruptly, blinking around as the room continued to spin.
"Someone tell the room to stop spinning." She grumbled, completely unaware that her right arm was still on fire.
