Coyota is tough. She will do just about anything to get what she wants, and will stick to any goal she sets her mind to. She also is very driven and won't hesitate to take action. Her mind is quick and she is always ready with a plan, though she often won't tell anyone about it. Living on the streets has made her very resourceful, though it also made her a bit of a cleptomaniac.

That being said, she is extremely paranoid, believing that just about everybody is out to get her. For a short period of her life, this was entirely true, so her concern isn't unjustified. Ever since her mother died, she closed herself off emotionally, and hasn't allowed anyone to see her as vulnerable.

Coyota Rangan was born to Scorpio and Angela Rangan in Chennai, India. Scorpio was the head of a massive underground corporation that specialized in transporting and producing artifacts with dark magic that were illegal. Coyota's mother was the daughter of a prominent figure in the mafia, and was married off to Scorpio in the hopes of creating strong ties with his company.

When Coyota was nine years old, her mother was killed by Scorpio when she attempted to poison him. Thinking that the mafia had instructed her to do so, he ceased interactions with them and went into hiding with his daughter. Two years after her mother's death, the mafia had forcefully seized control of the company and began hunting down the Rangans, and they located them and successfully murdered Scorpio. Coyota, however, at the age of twelve managed to escape to a nearby city. She then spent two years on the streets using only her wits to survive, until the mafia found her and captured her.

Being directly related to one of their more important members, she was considered only a minor threat and sent to live with her aunt in London, and began attending hogwarts when she was fifteen.
