In a way, Nolan is the perfect mafia bigshot. He receives a thrill in killing, but also appreciates the delicacy in it. He is adept at navigating social interactions, often able to manipulate people with little to no effort on his part. He has almost no empathy for others, yet can easily identify and use emotions to his advantage.

Nolan doesn't care about anyone, except maybe his adopted daughter, Karma Black. Even in spite of this, he would be able to kill her in a moments notice with little remorse if it meant saving himself. When he kills, however, he does it strategically, and only occasionally will he take calculated risks.

Nolan was the second-youngest child of a very wealthy landowning wizarding family with longstanding connections with the mafia. Being the middle child, he was often pushed aside by his parents in favor of his siblings. Knowing that this meant he probably wouldn't inherit much of his father's estate, Nolan pushed himself and graduated from Hogwarts three years early and at the top of his class. He proceeded to join the Mafia at the age of fifteen, at first doing small jobs here and there, then joining the ranks and slowly climbing up the hierarchy, eventually becoming a part of the inner circle. By the time he was a legal adult, Nolan had committed twenty acts of murder.
