Personality:
Celes is the typical self-doubting misfit student who despite his intelligence and passion for learning and life, comes off as aloof and often depressed. Although he doesn't openly show his enthusiasm or optimism, he's very headstrong and will brave any task if he sets himself on it.
However that's sometimes a large 'if', as he is still reluctant and hesitant to begin with many task. He'll swallow his pride and overtake any obstacle if it presents itself only if his convictions truly allow for his persistence. Other than his shy and meek, often withdrawn demeanor, he has a decent sense of humor and keen insight if one gets the chance to know him.

Overall history:
A young wizard coming from the capital of Belgium, Celes discovered at a young age he could perform magic from the abilities he inherited from his parents. Although is family wasn't luxurious, they avoided poverty and found a small niche within the cove of their backwater industrial apartment. Celes often made a name for himself reading up on books and magical history, and causing mischief within his neighborhood. He would occasionally hang out with a small rat-pack before they started to suspicion and fear him, leading to a very unfortunate magical beatdown for most of the urban degenerates.

He has been mostly lonely and resigned ever since, finding comfort in books. Since his father died for mysterious reasons he's actually tried hard to keep his mother 'off the streets', especially trialing trying to dissuade her from using unlawful charms and spells to hook in would-be 'clients'. The two of them apparently tried to make rent otherwise. This lead to Celes learning lots of clever, more practical tricks with his wizardy which combined with his quick-thinking street smarts turned a profit and sustained them.

He was relieved and overjoyed after getting his letter to Hogwarts, more so that the school agreed to provide his mother with 'welfare' so long as he attended and kept a decent record up. Now attending Hogwarts, he is still reluctant to open himself up and prefers to spend most of his time studying, and fitting in with the crowd if he must. He's well liked by the teachers who appraise his studiousness and maturity, but notice the burden he often feels he carries around.
