Personality: Veronika has had to care for her young sister and her ailing mother for years. She is motherly and caring, but doesn't get much affection at home because her mother's illness takes up most of her time. She craves affection and will get it almost any way she can. She often turns to boys to get her share of love, although she finds it hard to commit.
Veronika has a burning hate for her father, who left when she was ten, leaving his dying wife and young daughters alone. Veronika wants nothing more than to see her father pay for leaving them, forcing her to take several jobs at a young age to support the family.

Overall history: Veronika was born in a blizzard and her mother always called her Snowflake. Her father hardly ever called her anything. He was always either at one of many temporary jobs, drinking, or nursing a hang over. He was an angry dunk, but Veronika quickly learned how to avoid his blows and even get some of her own back. It was always worse for her afterward, but she wanted her own little revenges.
When Veronika was 10 and her sister was 2, Mrs. Erinaya went into the hospital, complaining of an ache that wouldn't go away. While the Healers were examining, they found something troubling. There was Dark Magic at work in Mrs. Erinaya and they rushed to try and treat it. Unfortunatley, they cannot figure out precisely what the spell is or how to counteract it. She has been getting steadily worse for years on end.
Mr. Erinaya left at the news, leaving mother and children with no means to support themselves. Verokina took any job she could, even at her youn age, to support the family. She often stole when there was nothing else. Irena wanted to help and eventually, grudgingly, Veronika taught her ways to get money. Irena became very street savvy, good at pick pocketing and conning. Veronika taught herself magic for years out of books, buying her supplies spaingly with whatever money she managed to scrape together. She is ambitious to get a good enough job to support her mother's medical costs and therefore has to attend a real school for at least a few years, though she continues to work whenever possible.
