It was, after all, as it had always been, a cruel sight to see. The Forbidden Forest dwells in the most cautious and careful of conceptions, even to professors. Such a location could not be trifled with lightly. This likely meant that a modest trio of first years who either thought too much of themselves, thought too much of others, or thought too much in general, were almost certain to meet trouble. However, process to proving your ability is to test your ability, which is why Daniel, atleast, approached the border between sanity and madness, safety and danger, grass and forest.

He looked to his sides. Had the pair followed him? Hopefully so, as he would journey into the forest with his oh-so headstrong stride regardless. It would be a much, much safer trip with the other two around, not to mention Daniel felt a little bonding-time with these two could serve a fruitful purpose. He opened his nostrils and took in as much of the fright-filled air hiding just past the sulking trees as he could muster before exhaling a steady, willing breath. A smoker takes in nicotine for their addiction, and Daniel comparatively did the same, but with danger. Second-hand smoke could be twice as harmful, though....

Nothing could be any better than this. A beautiful Night in the Forbbiden Forest with Beautiful monsters. Alena thought that a deep awakening was in the forest, it awoke the minds of whom with wit would enter at their madness. Her hearing picked up the creatures of the forest with ease, she knew what lurked by close.

She looked at the other two boys with her pout, noticing the up becoming fog coming from the depths of the darkness within. "There are a couple of clearings close by, many creatures stumble across it with ease." She said to them, her eyes picking up the beautiful darkness within.

It is true that there are many tests within the forest, would they come across one like she had only a couple of week back?

The group had paused by the edge. Almost hesitantly. But this was not a hesitant group. Each member seemed like they thrived on this sort of thing. After a short pause, Ken would take a step forward, crossing the threshold into the Forbidden Forest.

They were here, in the forest, finally. Ken had wanted to come here since he started school, but he was either too busy or had nobody to come with. This was not a place that most first years would want to come alone to. It was interesting how easily the three of them found their way into the forest, and how easily they all seemed comfortable here. Ken looked around. It was almost dark outside, but here, in the forest, it was most likely to always appear to be night time, making it almost impossible to tell what time it actually was.

It would be interesting to see some animals, and it seemed that Alena knew where to find them, suggesting that the group find a clearing in order to find them. As the girl finished talking, there was a rustling off to the group's right, followed by a muffled sound. "I uh... I don't think we're going to need to find a clearing to see a creature." Ken said, half scared, half curious. In situations like this, Ken's curious side more often than not got the better of him.

With the notions of the Ravenclaws, they ventured within. This was dangerous. Not the forest, no: the fact that each and every one of them craved this was the scary part. "Don't go looking for trouble," sang the old proverb. But what fun was that, anyways!? Daniel's and Alena's personalities may have clashed, and perhaps he didn't know Ken all that well, but together, trekking into mystery and fate, there was a bond between them that drew them closer. This group became one, in that aspect. They still had a ways to go, but they were, indeed, on their way.

To that slightest of sounds and with Ken's warning, Daniel's wand found its way into his left palm. Walnut: much brighter and prominent in hue than the dead-looking flora around them. Now the grin Daniel showed this time shine unlike his previous smirks; this time, it bore excitement, an unquenchable thirst for whatever this threat be. If the young boy held fear in his soul at that moment, he had no way of knowing. Long ago, he made a permanent correlation with fear and pleasure, and that is why, raising his extended arm towards the potential threat, he waited.

No turning back now, well that's what she thought as they stepped over the boarder line into the darkness within. Her ears picked up the nights creatures, listening carefully to what was beyond them. Her head tilted sideways as the three of them continued to walk. She could hear clattering ahead, the familiar sound she had met last time.

"There's three thestrals ahead." She said softly, now seeing the figures of the creatures ahead behind a cluster of oak trees. She didn't know if the other two boys could see them, she didn't even know if they had seen death like her. She closed her eyes for a quick second as she moved ahead of them, going inbetween the cluster of trees.

She quietly decended, seeing that it was a small clearing. She got her wand out and pointed to the floor, "Hyacintho Meridiem Defensionem!" She chanted the charm twice, seeing the dark grounf glowing blue, lighting up the clearing to see the Thestrals looking at her. One was a baby, the other two older. Their wings flapped.

We won't hurt you. she said to them with her creature tongue. She walked up slowly, bowing to them as she moved. She held her hand out, bending down as she looked at the mother who bowed her head. Alena touched the youngs noes, smiling slightly. She wondered if the two boys were behind her.

Once the noise had been heard, Ken's wand nestled itself in his right hand, and that is where it remained. Not out of fear, but anticipation. There was a difference, and that difference was what got almost everyone of power by in their life. Not being afraid was one thing, but not having your guard up, well that was just plain stupid. And stupid was something that the Ravenclaw was not.

Thestrals huh? Ken thought, as the girl started moving forward. It seemed that she knew about these creatures. At least, she knew more than Ken had. He had heard of them, but only just heard of them. He had never seen one, and he considered, at the moment, this to be a good thing. He had never witnessed death. He felt his life was more than that. He had been lucky growing up. Being raised by a family who liked fun, more than anything. It was because of his family that Ken had never seen death, and it was because of his family that Ken could not see the three creatures that Alena was now face to face with.

Ken had followed her, hopefully Daniel behind him, down the now glowing path. He stood behind her as she kneeled down in the middle of the clearing. Because he couldn't see the creatures, he found it best to stay behind someone who could. He glanced back to see if Daniel was there and if he could see them.

Daniel squinted. To his disappointment, the threat was not a threat at all, and its existence remained foreign to his sensation. His wand lowered, sighing. Like Ken, the young lad barely knew his own life, much less about death. This wasn't for lack of trying, though; I can assure you that. Death and Daniel were destined to form a strong bond by the time his life drew to an ending. It was easy to see omens, especially when a Slytherin does so little to hide them.

Looking over at Ken, it appeared as if he could not see them, either. Alena could, though. Of course she could. The girl made a repetitious point to prove she was always in-the-know about everything. In fact, it would be surprising if she *couldn't* see the beasts. "You've experienced death, then." Daniel confirmed, half stating what he knew, half inquiring about its significance to the girl, just as young as he.

Alena noticed the two boys, she noticed that Ken was looking around, he couldn't see them. She felt his kneeled down presence behind her, But Daniel stood, he could see them?. She listened to him while she rised up, turning her head back to the dark creatures. She let out a deep sad sigh, raising her head to the darkened sky.

"Yes, I have witnessed Death. Especially when ones parents were killed in front of her while young." She said in a whisper, letting it float away. "I see you have too, seen death at its mighty glory." She said with a nod.

"It's a good thing that you carn't see them Ken, but they are a beautiful creature."

"I've had a happy-go-lucky life. I've yet to witness death, and I am sorry that you have. Aren't these supposed to be a bad omen?" Ken asked. His mother had told him some about the magical creatures, and he had read about them in a book... somewhere. But in both cases he did recall that Thestral's were known to come with misfortune. If that was the case, then why had the group of first-years come across these creatures, when so many others made this forest their home.

Ken backed up, getting in line with Daniel.

He shook his head. "No," Daniel admitted, "I can't see them." Ken came back beside Daniel, and the two sort of just looked as Alena danced with creatures of a terrible past. "There's no such thing as omens." Daniel could tolerate Divination as a school of magic, but superstitions and the like were just preposterous distractions from reality.

Alena stood, shrugging at them both. "That part of Divination sucks arse, if you ask me. Daniel's right, Ken. There's no such thing as omens, but it's you opinion at the end of the day." She said with a nod at the Ravenclaw boy. Her eyes looked to the right of her, seeing something had startled the Thestrals, now running into the south of the forest.

Her eyes narrowed to the east faceing of the clearing, something shining on the blue glowing glass. She walked over. kneeling down and letting her fingers poke the sliver liquid. "Looks like a unicorn has been attacked, and what it was is close by, seeing at the thestrals have run away into the south." Alena said as she picked up a small jar from her left pocket, pointing her wand at the silver liquid, whispering a incantation and watching it flow from the ground and into the jar.

"Useful for potions." She muttered, walking back to the two boys.

It was true that believing in omen's was weird. Ken wasn't quite sure if he believed in them or not, after all, why should he? His growing up didn't have the needs for omens.

Apparently, the Thestrals were gone, as Alena stood back up and expressed that a Unicorn had most likely been attacked, shortly following a noise off the the east. This noise, had once again, brought Ken's wand-arm outstretched. One could never be too careful, especially in this forest. "It takes a lot to attack a Unicorn, especially enough to make it... bleed" Ken hadn't hesitated on the last word out of sickness or disgust, but instead he became interested in the fact that Alena was bottling some of the blood for potion use.

"What do you think attacked it?" Ken asked his two companions.

Potions, ingredient-retrieving charms, divination, caring to magical creatures: this chick was racking up the subjects as she spoke. Ken asked a particularly good question. What *did* attack the unicorn? It it still lingered within their vicinity, it could serve as a supplement for the lack of adrenaline thus far. After all: creatures are rarely prejudice about which living thing they attacked; if a unicorn were assaulted, so would Hogwarts first-years.

Alena had gotten the best look at the majestic beast, so perhaps she could serve as the best diagnostician. "Hopefully something nearby," Daniel reflected, accidentally aloud.
