Her eyes flickered to where her family was, playing some sort of game in the middle of the lake, and her heart dropped for a moment. She wished she could be there, with them. Nothing's stopping you, a little voice spoke in her head. But of course something was. She was stopping herself.
She knew this fear was silly, she knew how to swim, she would not drown. But after that incident with alcohol and the swimming pool, back before her first year, she felt scared just to be near a large body of water.
Things were getting better, though, she was making progress. Now, she could put her feet in and not feel anything at all. But she still figured it would be a while until she finally got over this.
If she ever did.
