J. J. sighed as she pulled away from her family; all their happy faces smiling down at her. She had to wipe away a tear.
Her whole life she had spent in the same house with the same people. What was she to do now. She wouldn't see them again for months -- not until Christmas. How was she supposed to wait that long? What if she didn't make any friends? She always had her siblings but now?
Giving each of them one last hug -- she couldn't resist just leaving it at that -- she headed towards the barrier between 9 and 10. Her family hadn't felt comfortable emersing themselves completely into that world yet -- her world.
Sighing, she ran through the wall and was surprised to come out on the other side, unharmed as promised.
Magic still threw her through a loop -- she was magical, different, special even. She didn't understand it.
The new platform was filled with families saying good-bye, signs of magic was everywhere.
J. J. looked at one family longingly, already missing her own although she had left them only minutes before.
With a shake of her head, she left the platform, and got on the train.
Glancing through doors she saw compartments filled with other people, and for a moment she thought about going into one -- put yourself out there and they will love you , her Mother's voice rang in her head.
But J. J. didn't believe it. That was what Mother's were supossed to say. They never told you the truth -- only the mother truth.
Her stomach turned at the thought of putting herself out there in front of these students, and she turned away from that compartment.
Finally, she found an empty one and settled inside.
If someone approached her she'd talk, but until then she was on her own.
There was nothing left to do but wait and see.
