Lesson One - First year Empty Lesson One - First year

Post by Nova Doherty Tue Nov 29, 2011 3:03 pm

The young professor, Nova Doherty, was walking to the Quidditch Pitch. She was feeling rather well that day.

The brooms were already neatly moved to their positons, and all what was missing were her students and she waited patiently for them, hoping they wont come late or she'll have to punish them on her first work day and first day as head of Slytherin.

Walking down to the Quidditch pitch, Savannah couldn't help but marvel at the goalposts. They were so high above. Imagine what would happen if someone fell. Smirking at the mental image, she hurried down the last few metres when she noticed a woman (most likely the teacher), standing there. Plastering a smile, she waved, "Good morning Professor! I hope you're having a good day back so far!"

Looking back up, she grinned again. It was funny, how she'd fooled people over the last few days of having a fear of heights. When she got on a broom, she'd give them the shock of their short lives.

Kirsten hurried through the grounds of Hogwarts, the seasonal wind wipping through her blonde toussled locks and long robes. She couldn't contain the grin that was spreading over her face, because today, today was the first day of flying lessons.

She was happy to see that she appeared to be just on time - the Proffessor was already there, and just one other student. As Kirsten trotted closer she realized it was the perpetually quiet girl she had shared a carriage with on the train. Great.

"Hello!" Kirsten called cheerily as she finally drew into the Quidditch Pitch. She took in the brooms that were already lined up and felt another rush of excitement. She couldn't wait to get on a broom ... hopefully she wouldn't fall off and embarrass herself!

"How are you?" she asked to the two people before her.

Oh Merlin no. It was the girl from the train; the one who insisted on a conversation with her. Hoping she hadn't recognized her, Savannah hurriedly turned towards to the brooms. Taking in deep breaths, she reminded herself that she had to act scared, or class wouldn't be as fun. Turning towards the professor, and by extension Kristen, she asked nervously, "How high will we be going on the brooms?" looking up with a panicky expression, she continued, "Because the goalposts look awfully high."

Now sparing Kristen a glance she answered her, but with an expression and voice that made it seem like she was hoping that Kristen hadn't overheard what she's said, "Oh, he-hello there."

The girl - Sally, was it? Susan? S ... Savannah! - seemed a little more fidgety and nervous than the haughty holier than thou attitude she had been portraying on the train. Something was amiss, Kirsten thought, staring at the stuttering mess of a girl.

"Hi ..." she said warily. "Remember me?" she asked, "I couldn't help but overhear your question. I can't expect we'll be going too high on our first lesson," she added helpfully, "although it looks like it will be mighty fun!"

Well, so far this plan seemed to be working reasonably well, but she couldn't help but feel a little giddy at even the slight progress. Nodding at Kristen, she said, sounding slightly embarrassed, "I remember you." looking back up at the sky with a grimace, she muttered, "Fun? Really?"

She smiled to the Gryffindor girl politely. "Yes I am, same goes for you."
Then the other girl came too so she nodded her head.

"I'm fine dear, how bout you two?" and then added. "This is your first hour so we will not be going very far. Just a bit above the ground."

Kirsten smiled, the polite and calming mannerisms of the Proffessor doing wonders for the slight bout of nerves that were beginning to build up through her previous emotions of excitement. The more she looked at the brooms, the more she remembered her father's story about his first flying lesson. Although funny now, a broken arm wouldn't be pleasant at the time!

"I'm great, thank you," she replied. "Well that's good!" she said in response to just flying above the ground for their first lesson. Having never actually ridden a broomstick before, she was glad the first lesson would be relatively easy. In theory.

Savannah looked over as the professor spoke. Smiling at her words, she said, "I'm well, thank you."

Happy that they weren't going to be flying very far, she grinned, looking over at the brooms, brimming with fake happiness. "That's good news."

Dimi was slowly approaching the pitch, half sleeping and half wondering why he ever signed up for this class.
Oh, because of Ovv, he smiled while thinking of the young woman who used to babysitt him.
His eyes widened as he saw only girls there.
I'm surrounded by girls, he whispered as it was a bad thing.

"Jutro", he spoke in Russian to the professor.

Finally! Someone she didn't know and who it wouldn't be awkward around! Looking over at the brunet who'd joined them, she smiled. Tilting her head slightly as she heard him in speak in something that was very much not English, she wondered what he'd said. Other languages fascinated the English girl. seeing as her knowledge of languages had a grand total of 1. So she'd always loved listening to other people speak in languages, even if she couldn't understand what they were saying.

"Hello lovely firsties", she said addressing the newcomers and then walking over to Dimitri she added, "Jutro dečko."

She messed his hair up, because she knew he hates that.

"We will wait for a bit, and if no one else shows up, the class is starting. Oh and, I'm new at this, you're new at this, so no point in being scared or frightened, we'll get past this. I'll teach you all to fly in no time, just believe in yourself like I do."

Azrali cursed as she realized the time, "Bloody! Flying!" She'd been on a jog in her uniform, without her robe. She made her way around till she noticed the group of First years like herself. She slid into a spot where a broom was unoccupied and smiled at the woman, Professor... Professor... Oh boy, Professor... D... Doherty! That was it.

"G'Morning Professor Doherty." She nodded, hoping she wasn't late yet.

Az laughed lightly, "Yeah, Azrali Dancescu." She responded, standing with her hands in her back pockets, leaning back coolly. She thought about Professor Doherty's question for a moment and figured if they hadn't shown up by now, they probably wouldn't. She was running late and still got here before class was called. Plus, she was itching to get on a broom, now. She nodded at Doherty,

"Yeah, we definitely need to start now." She said with a lazy smirk. She wanted on that broom.

After a few new arrivals trickled into the class, Proffessor Doherty suggested that they begin the class.

Kirsten smiled with an affirmative nod at the suggestion, thinking the sooner she got on the broom the sooner she could see for herself if it was really all that scary or not ...

Isabel ran out of the castle as fast as she could with only one shoe on and attempting to pull on her robe. She sprinted the last couple of feet before finally halting in the group of other first years gathered around the professor, and fell face first to the floor. One girl helped her to her feet, and Isabel noticed the Ravenclaw crest on her robes.
"Thank you. I'm late, aren't I?" she sighed, looking around nervously.

"Just by a few minutes," Kirsten said kindly as she helped the girl up. She helpfully dusted some dirt off the poor girl's robe and smiled. "Are you ok?" she asked with concern; it had looked like a fairly serious fall that the girl had had!

"SO ready!" Azrali exclaimed standing next to her broom and raising her hand over it. She was practically bouncing on her heels as she stood there, waiting for further instruction. She already knew how to use a broom, and how to fly exceptionally well, but figured the only time she'd get on one at Hogwarts was to take Flying.
