    Lesson 2 - 3rd Years Empty Lesson 2 - 3rd Years

Post by Koehae Glennane Tue Jan 10, 2012 4:56 am

3rd Years, Koehae mused, trying to cast her mind back to when she was of that age. "Hmm," she said, turning in a slow circle around her classroom.

They would be mature, she thought, perhaps even eager to learn. She let a half smile play on her lips, and picked up a piece of chalk. In keeping with the plan she had for her lesson, she manually wrote with a piece of chalk the heading for the day: MUGGLE INTERROGATION: THE REID TECHNIQUE.

It would be interesting, she thought, to start off with this, one of her personal favourite methods.

One of Lena's favourite lessons was Interrogation, and she was glad to be the first person in the room. She nodded towards her Head of House, as she had heard from various sources. Her eyes widened at the mention of the words Muggle Interrogation and she looked over at the Professor.

"Professor Glennane, I'm Lena Vorstenbach, Uchitel." She held out her hand so the Professor could shake. "I hear you're my Head of House. And I'm sure the Reid technique consists of an interview which doesn't accuse the unsub of anything, and I'm sure observing behaviour is in there somewhere." She bit her lip. "I don't mean to sound like I know everything, but I've read up on it before."

"Miss Vorstenbach," Koehae said coolly when her first student of the lesson arrived, taking her proffered hand in a brisk handshake.

She was secretly pleased about the character and initiative this girl displayed, especially as she went on to address the topic on the board. The way she rambled nervously reminded her of how she herself had been at such a young age ...Ah, lost innocence, she thought bitterly ...

If Koehae wanted one thing for her students; above respect and trust, she wanted them to take away skills that would stop them from losing their own innocence too soon.

Realizing that she'd drifted off, Koehae snapped back to reality, just in time to catch the end of the Uchitel girl's spiel. "You're quite right with what you've just told me," she said, "observing behaviour is - well, in my opinion - entirely paramount to this technique. ...It seems you are ... interested in this subject?" She clapped her hands sharply and continued, "Two points to Uchitel are in order."

Ruby walked in to the classroom. She noticed her professor and another student. "Hello Professor I am Ruby Moon. I apologize for missing the first lesson. I'm coming from a Muggle school." Ruby said.

The words "Muggle School" immediately caught Koehae's attention and caused her hackles to rise. That was a part of her - that although existed - she did not want to contend with.

Give the girl a chance, she told herself, turning to face the newcomer with a forced smile. "That's quite alright Miss Moon. I myself was not the teacher for the first lesson; so we're all starting anew with the second one. Welcome."

"Thank you ma'am. I will do my best to stay caught up and have a good grade," Ruby said.

She noticed the professor grimice at the Muggle School, but Ruby was tough. She would make it. She was an outcast in her old school but here Ruby would try and fit in.

Lena nodded. "I like Interrogation. It's kind of like psychology, but more violent," she replied calmly. She acknowledged the other girl, nodding towards her. She recognized her from somewhere, but she can't remember where.

Jaelyn walked into the classroom, allowing her gaze to move slowly around the room. She was silent for a moment before she spoke.

"Professor." she greeted lowly, but confidently.

"Lena, Ruby." she nodded her head and sat behind them. Jaelyn smirked at the words on the board. The Reid Nine Steps of Interrogation, if she were not mistaken. She had...dabbled in interrogation before.

Dante really didnt know what to expect from school life as he'd never been to one before. His school life usually consisted sitting out in his garden or where ever he pleased with the best tutor his parents could pay for.

He walked into the classroom and immediately headed for one of the empty desks not bothering too much with who he sat next too because he didn't know anyone yet.

Lena nodded towards Jaelyn. They were not friends or enemies, but she knew her, of course. Who didn't Lena know?

Well, she didn't know the new boy that entered the classroom.

"Umm... who are you?" she asked him. She had a feeling she should avoid him though, because there was an air of grace she had never seen in anyone before that she saw in him.

Ruby nodded back to Jaelyn and sat down with sigh. She was tired and wanted to get this class over with. Interrogation was one of the few things Ruby prided herself in. She knew she would learn things in this class though.

She pulled out her notebook and pen. She then put her head down, waiting for the class to start.

Koehae clapped her hands together, having had quite enough of the idle chit-chat taking place in her classroom.

"That's quite enough," she said, "now that a majority of you are here, I believe it's high time to begin the lesson."

She stood, sweeping her eyes over the promising bunch of students, smiling at the thought of helping them succeed in this war. It was one of the many joys she got out of teaching.

Stopping in the centre of the room she eyed them sternly. "For three points, who can tell me the name of the muggle who established the Reid technique?"

Ruby sat up and thought for a moment. Going through her memories of the books she read she remembered who it was, hopefully.

"I do believe it was John E. Reid and his associates, Professor," She called out. Leaning back in her chair, Ruby waited for Professor Glennane to answer.

Koehae arched her eyebrow as Ruby the mudblood answered. She listened intently to her perfectly book-memorized answer, refraining from rolling her eyes.

"Yes," she replied monotonously, "you are correct Miss Moon. Three points to Histrost," she added drily.

"Now," she added, peering at her students to make sure they were paying attention, "if you could all open your textbook: Essentials of the Reid Technique: Criminal Interrogations and Confessions to page 60: Asking an initial question. Please read it and write two paragraphs summing up what you've read."

She paused for a moment, "I'll give you 20 minutes, then I'd like you to hand it up. Keep in mind I will be grading this and it will minorly contribute to your overall grade."

Lena had finished the two paragraphs in a jiffy. Technically, it was more like, five minutes, but it was quick and easy. By the end of the twenty-minute deadline, Lena had already done close to three feet of writing, since she had always been a quick and detailed writer.

"Is this okay?" she asked, handing her parchment to the Professor.

Ruby sighed and started to skim her textbook. When she was done she began to write. She finished her paragraphs quickly. She brought it up and put it on the professor's desk, "here you go ma'am." She walked back to her seat and put her head down.

Koehae was immensly pleased when the two girls handed up their decent-sized responses. They were both hard workers, she thought, dilligent and conscientious. She appreciated that.

"Thank you," she replied smoothly to each of them, skimming quickly over their work to ensure everything was in order. "I'll have your papers graded and back to you by next lesson."

She looked up and continued, "While we wait for these last two to quickly finish up, could Lena and Ruby please return to the front of the class? To pass the time we'll play ... a game ..." Koehae smiled.

    Pleased that her whimsical idea of a game had piqued the interest of at least one of her students, Koehae let out a rare smile in the direction of Lena - who was well on her way to becoming one of the student's Koehae would look forward to seeing - and answered;

"Well I suppose one could liken it to a trivia game ... but with a twist," she said mysteriously, rapidly figuring out the rules in her head. "Like one of those muggle game shows," she elaborated, beckoning for Ruby - who was yet to move - to come up to the front and join Lena.

"I'll ask the two of you a series of questions about interrogation procedure. The first one to answer correctly is permitted to place a small - and I stress - fun and harmless charm on your slower oppenent."

She nodded as if agreeing with herself and added, "I think it will be enlightening for all of us to see how much you know already on this subject. With the added extra fun of performing under pressure."

Ruby sighed and moved to the front of the classroom. She turned to face Lena and leaned back against the desk. "I know what you are talking about professor. I don't need the Muggle reference. I am a pure blood."

Ruby wanted to take a nap. She had been up for the past couple nights studying. She was tired and a little grumpy.

"Whoever said the muggle reference was for your benefit?" Koehae replied archly to Ruby. She frowned distastefully at the girl for a few moments, biting back the urge to fire another retort in her direction.

"So if you're ready Miss Moon - as I'd hate ever so much to inconvenience you - we might begin?"

She glanced between the two girls and said, "Something simple to begin with. If you know the answer you need not raise your hand. Just blurt it out before your opponent does."

Clearing her throat, she phrased the first question; "Throughout which two decades was the Reid technique initially developed?"

"Ding, ding Lena Vorstenbach," Koehae confirmed. She glanced between the two girls. "A harmless charm of your choice," she said, "can now be cast."

Glancing down at her watch, she jolted, suddenly aware that the lesson was very close to ending. Blast.

Before Lena cast her spell, Koehae hurriedly added, "The lesson's soon to end. I'm afraid that one question was all we had time for ... once Lena has cast her charm, you may all move to your next lesson."

She sharply glanced at her other two students who were yet to turn in their comprehension exercise, adding, "If you two would like to avoid detentions until you get your work done, I suggest you have it for me at the start of next lesson," she said, feeling more compassionate than usual.

"Aguamenti," Lena grinned, watching a jet of water spray Ruby's robes. She had learned it from a spell book her brother had bought her. To this day, she had no idea why it was only limited to Sixth Years and above in Hogwarts, because it was actually pretty easy.
