Here's the thing about trying to avoid dangers.

It doesn't usually help to avoid one by walking right into another.

Of course J. J. never really did things the way they were best done. She usually managed to get herself into worse situations before she got a better one. Really she just got all her disasters done at once and then was good to go for a week or two.

In an attempt to avoid some students she'd rather not run into, J. J. had skillfully maneuvered her way right into the forest, and a glance at the sky could tell anyone that the sun would be setting soon.

She had wandered in farther than was smart and had no idea how to get out.

"This is just brillant," she muttered to herself, pulling her ropes closer to defend against the bitter wind.

She walked a few more steps and then stopped. She heard something snap behind her. Oh god, she she was probably going to die now. Why did I come into the forest?

Nervously glancing over her shoulder she gave a shaky breath when she saw nothing. She was about to turn back around when she heard the noise again.

"Is-is someone there?" she called out in a shakey voice, her breath fogging out infront of her. God, she really hated the forest.

It was feeding time. He caught a beautiful big deer, not the biggest, but definitely one of the prettiest in their small group, and was sorry that he had to kill someone as special as him.
Those big brown eyes that watched him in fear, made him remember some of his humans victims in the years before he could be controlled. He sighed.

Dimitri drank slowly, licking his lips every now and so and feeling awful, alone.

He had to stop, he had to control himself, let it live, be better than he really was.

Then he heard a familiar voice, a voice warm to his heart and did the first thing he remembered to do, back away and stood there in defense mode.

    J. J. waited a long moment, but got no answer. Well no word answer. There was definitely something there. The fact that she got no answer probably meant that it couldn't answer. She wasn't sure if she liked that better or not.

Nervously, she pulled her wand out of her pocket and took another step forwad. Logic would state that since it seemed that whoever or whatever was there seemed to not be bothering her, she should really just turn and go the other way, but something was driving her forward still.

"Hello?" she called again, the lowering sun creating shadows hiding many things. "H-hello, is there-" she stopped as she caught sight of the person, a person she knew.

    "Dimitri?"

He heard a scary noise, something between a hiss and cat's chattering, only 10 times louder. So you could imagine his surprise when he realized that noise came from his own lungs. Dimitri was still in defense mode, trying to get his control back, but in the same time, his hunger made him aware of everything around him, including JJ's blood and veins.

"No, go away!" he yelled, wanting to protect her.

    J. J. blinked and jumped slightly at the hissing sound. It was animal, feral; she could have sworn it came from Dimitri, but that didn't make sense. It must have been another animal somewhere - mustn't it?

She felt her heart rate spike. She didn't understand what was going on, and understandably her fear increased doubly.

She stopped moving forward. Her brain - logic- was screaming at her to follow Dimitri's advice and just leave.

But since when had J. J. ever listened to her logic? Not listening to logic was what had gotten her into the damn forest in the first place.

Instead she just listened to the tiny irrational part of her that wouldn't let her legs move.

Wide eyed, and pale faced she stayed where she was, "W-why? W-w-what's going on?"

He knew he scared her, but at that moment, he couldn't care less. Attack her, drink her blood, butcher her, was the only thing he thought about. No, a small voice in his head whispered. NO!, the voice started to yell, becoming stronger and louder. Leave her alone!

If he could fight the beast in him, now was the best time to try. Here, in front of him, stood a girl, someone innocent and young, a good person, someone who he genuinely cared about. This was the right moment to prove his control, but it was hard, too hard, and her blood sang to him, sang awful, convincing notes.

His legs started moving towards her, slowly approaching her even before his brain could stop them. NO!, he yelled again to himself, trying to move away, but his legs betrayed him so he was just stood a meter away from her, half backing further from her, half looking like he's gonna jump her.

J.J.'s heart was beating rapidly and he heard it, so he decided, even before she spoke. The next thing that happened wasn't surprising, as he ran in intention to knock her down.

    J. J. stood in silence watching the boy in front of her, every moment her fear spiking higher. His steps were slow, almost -hesitant?- in a way. It was as if he was fighting with himself, but why would he need to do that?

Still, despite everything, J. J. found herself taking a step back as he moved forward. Something in her brain was telling her that how they were was close enough - perhaps it was too close already.

"Dimi-" the rest of his name was lost in a scream as it appeared whatever battle he was having ended, and the winning side came charging at her like a bull. Self preservation kicked in, and she tried to move to the side, step out of the way, but he was moving fast - almost unnaturally so - and it was no use.

He caught her shoulder and - as was his intention - they both went down, Hard. Her wand went flying from her hand, but the young girl was more concerned with the sickening snapping sound and unimaginable pain that sprang through her as their combined weight, and the way she had put her arm down caused the bone in it to affectively snap.

She let out a sobbing gasp, tears from the pain - and she had suspicion a little from fear - immediately sprung to her eyes, but she couldn't dwell on it at the moment. She had larger things to worry about.

Dimitri was very close now, and unlike the other times, she had a feeling this wasn't a good thing. I'm stronger than I look, that's what he had said and J. J. didn't doubt it. Getting away now really wasn't an option anymore.

So the girl did the only thing she could think of. Putting her good arm hesitatingly up, she rested a hand lightly on his cheek, caught his eye, and begged.

"D-Dimitri," she more or less sobbed, tears running down her face and her body shaking from both fear and pain, "P-p-please. Please."

She didn't entirely know what she was begging for, but something told her it just might be her life.

As he realized that his lethal attempt is probably going to be successful, the other voice in his head started to mourn the first person that ever made him feel warm inside. I must protect her, save her, I can't hurt her!, the little voice fought it's way into his conscious. PROTECT!, it yelled, stronger than ever. You truly care for someone other than yourself, and that's rare. Protect her!

They were falling, and the only thing he could do to make it a little less painful for her, was to put his hand under her head, and after he did that, numbed by all the animal blood, her realized in shock that even though he tried his best, she ended up getting hurt, and it was all his fault.

His fangs were in, even after he smelled her blood so close to his mouth. The good side won, but it was probably too late to get her back, maybe just to make her less scared. Her hand was on his face.

"How bad is it?", he asked her, shaking as well, still on her. "Let me help you."

    J. J. knew she should move her hand. Try and get away now that she was sure he would let her if she tried.

But once more her brain wouldn't let her.

Instead she shifted slightly, which inturn caused her arm to move and she bit her lip trying to keep in the moan of pain that accompanied it.

"I-it's just my arm," she said quietly. "I think I broke it."

He got up, feeling awful but with no physical injuries and took J.J. in his arms. I'm gonna loose her, but at least I can explain it all to her now. he thought. "I'm a monster", the boy started, holding on to her. "That is the reason why I ended our kiss. It's not that I don't like you, I do, but I need blood to live, and your blood sings to me in a unbelievable way, like no blood ever sang to me before. I don't want to hurt you, but I can't control myself. You probably get it now, yes, I'm a vampire, and you need to drink my blood to get better."

Dimitri bit his own hand and offered it to J.J.

    J. J. bit her lips as he picked her up, keeping any sounds of pain or protest as her arm was jostled to herself - or at least trying to.

Still shivering, possible more now than she was before for her body was going into shock she curlled into his hold more than what previously happened, and what he was saying should dictate.

Good to know there are more of us around. That's what Karma had said on the train... and J. J. had known about Karma for quite a while now. It was true that his admition did frighten her slightly - and she had a feeling it would become more real later - but her brain wasn't making the connections as dire as it should, as Dimitri obviously did.

"Y-y-you're not a monster," she stuttered quietly, "J-J-Just a little... bloodily challenged."

She watched the blood slowly pool out of the two small wounds. Naturally - as she wasn't a vampire - her stomach clenched a bit at the thought of drinking it. Slowly, she ran her finger through the blood and looked at it there.

"H-h-how is this supposed to help me?"

His eyes spoke even before he said it out loud. They were telling J.J. to trust him, as he was about to start trusting himself also. "Believe me", he repeated it out loud. "I need you to have faith in me, because I'm not sure if I can save you from myself without it."

He laughed shakily. "That's a really bad joke J.J."

    "Just drink."

    J. J. looked up at him, biting her lip for a moment as she thought of something good, something right to say.

"I have faith in you Dimitri," she spoke softly, "If I didn't I don't think I'd still be here."

She mirrored his own laugh, "I don't know. I thought it was pretty good."

The girl looked at him for a young moment. She knew she just said she'd have faith in him but blood? That was-that was, well honestly rather disgusting to her human mind.

    Still...

Looking up at Dimtri not thinking about what she was doing she put the finger still coated in blood in her mouth.

She moved her tongue around adjusting to the matellic taste, "Well... here goes nothing."

Quickly, like pulling off a band-aid, J. J. took his hand, and but her mouth over the fresh open wound.

"Well you shouldn't have faith in me", he told her, completely aware of how crazy he probably sounded, telling her one thing at first and then the opposite later, confusing both of them. "Or maybe you should, I really don't know, we'll see."

Good job Clay, he told himself, using the one name he truly hated, his middle on. You're about to scare her off, it's weird how you haven't scared her off already.

As she started drinking his blood, he had that feeling of bitter sweet pain, liking it and hating it in the same moment. He whispered softly to her ear. "Vampire blood can heal human wounds, even lethal ones, if that vampire who shares it possesses a great power in him. I'm currently very weak, but it will help you, in fact, you should already start feeling better."

    J. J. tilted her head as Dimtri spoke; he was starting to sound as confused as she felt. Maybe he was.

"Why don't you let me worry about who I have faith in or not," she said with a soft smile. "And you can worry about you."

    J. J. listened to the boy, focusing on anything that wasn't what she was doing, and did find that what he was saying was true. She was starting to feel a fair bit better.

She continued what she was doing until she could move her injured arm without pain. She wasn't sure if it was mended, or just halfway so but she was going to have to wrap her head around the fact that she just drank blood at some point in time, and she was sure it might be easier if she drank as little as possible.

She stepped away slightly, not enjoying the rush of the wind that the sudden absent of him brought, and looked down at her feet, "Thank you."

"I can't let you do that", he told her, a note of hurt in his voice. "Also, currently I've been worrying only about one person, who's not me by the way. I'm not that selfish as you think and the truth is that I can't get you out of my head. Probably my emotions saved you tonight, because my body wants you in so many ways that It hurts, it really does..."

She moved from him, but the boy remained at his spot, almost ghostly, feeling numb. "I..."

    J. J. blushed and nervously ran a hand through her hair. No one had ever spoken to her like that, "Oh, I-I... that's..." she bit her lip feeling an odd combintation of emotions bubbling inside her.

"Dimitri," she reached out to him, wanting to step forward and then stopped. She wanted to return the setiment, she could feel it in her heart that that was what she wanted but she felt trapped. She couldn't find the words.

Finally, she took a hesitant step forward, closing the gap she herself had made ever so slightly. She wanted to go further, get rid of it completely, but she wasn't sure if that was okay.

"You know," she spoke softly, almost hesitantly, and looked at her feet a moment, long hair falling over her face before looking back up, "J. J.'s not actually my name. Well, I mean it is, I can hardly remember a time when I did not go by it but... It is not the name my parents gave me."

He knew he said to much, but now wasn't the time to think about it. The ghost like figure in which he was turning, became more and more human as J.J. continued talking to him, approaching him.

Suddenly he knew the answer to all of his questions. She makes me do good, feel good, behave good. I think I need her. And he was really happy that he was keeping her in his life, or at least, he's going to try to keep her there, as close as possible.

"Yes, I figured that out. But I never asked you what's your real name, because I thought, if you wanted me to know, that you would tell me. Now it seems that you're about to and I really am dying to know", Dimitri said, making one of his famous bad jokes. "Do you get it J.J., I'm dying?" His face froze as he realized that he shouldn't have said that. It wasn't even funny to him, but he was so nervous to make a good impression, to fix what he ruined before.

    J. J. gave him a small little smile, "See I'm not the only who makes bad jokes. Though at least mine was some what funny."

"Its not all that exciting," She shuffled herself a little closer and tucked her hair behind her ear. She didn't really know why she was nervous all of a sudden. It wasn't like her name was all that secret. There were tons of people who knew it before she stopped going by it, and if anyone asked she told them.

But know that she thought about it she didn't think she had ever told anyone willingly, with out being promted first.

"Juliet," she finally said with an embarrased smile. "My names actually Juliet. Juliet Jessica Jones."

Juliet, the girl who died for love.

He couldn't help but to smile back at her. "I know, you just made me nervous", he said, again revealing too much. "The fact that your finger is still covered in blood is making me nervous", the boy tried to fix his fail. "Can you please put it in your pocket or something. I am able to control myself, but I can tell you that this forest hides creatures that smell it better than me. I know because I sense them around...Even so, I think my joke was hilarious."

"I bet it is exciting", he responded. "I bet it is beautiful, not like you though, but I know it's beautiful." Their conversation made him think about his family again. Clay was the name his mom chose for him, and he hated it and refused to respond to it. Maybe I'm too harsh on her, he thought, rethinking his actions. NO, his mind firmly decided, she may be making me a better person, but will never make me forgive any of them. Dimitri caught his control again and looked at J.J.

"See blondie, I was right, it is beautiful. Do you mind if I call you Juliet? It reminds me of William Shakespeare and his plays, and it happens to be that I appreciate him very much." and then looking away, he added. "Why do people call you J.J.?"

    J. J. looked down at her finger in surprise. She had forgotten about it. She quickly stuck it in her pocket and cast the growing shadows a nervous glance, "What kind of creatures?"

"It wasn't funny at all," she said with a grin and using her other hand gave him a playful shove, "But you can keep telling yourself that if you want."

She blushed and mumbled a small bashful 'thank you.'

"It was an odd name, even without the play," she gave a shrug, "You know kids... I was never good at taking teasing. So it was just easier to, not go by it."

She took one more hesitant step forward again, every few seconds closing the gap between them more and more, "But I do not mind... if you wish... You can call me Juliet if you'd like." Normally she hated that name in any form but when Dimitri said it.... it was just different.

"Thank you", he told her, after she did what he asked her to do. "Don't worry about them. You are safe when you're with me, that's a promise." The last sentence caught even him by a surprise and as he moved closer to her, his face went all numb again. Control yourself, a voice in his head ordered him and he obeyed it.

"It was so funny", he responded, moving a bit closer again, but now looking at her more relaxed. He knew that it was all okay.

"Juliet is not odd", Dimitri said, looking right in her eyes. "It's perfect to describe you. So...well" and after he coughed a bit he finished. "Romantic."
