A Simple Gift

Venice, Early 1800's

A light breeze brushed Merles face as he stood there. He'd been in Italy for a while now, it had always been on his list of places to visit now he could. He would one day have traveled the world and seen all there was to see. His eye had been set on a girl since he'd arrived. A pretty little blonde around his age in human years. He could see it now, him ruling with her by his side. She make a great edition to his new family.

His eyes closed against the wind but soon opened again at the smell of delicious blood. Not being one to pass up the oppotunity for feeding, he sped down the street to find a small figure lying in the middle of the road. A female with long blonde hair and... couldn't be. He thought to himself as he slowly made his way forward. Her heart beat, no matter how faint was still there. He had chance to save her.

He ran and kneeled down by her side taking her in his arms. "Amora?"

Amora had been running.

She'd lost her shoes back near the water, and they hadn't stopped. Corsets weren't made for running, though. Neither were full skirts.

She'd tripped and fell and they'd got her. The men.

Kicking and tearing at her clothes, they'd forced her onto the street, yelling at her and filling the air with the scent of cheap rum. She'd been crying and trying to fight them off, but one had gotten happy with a knife and now...

Now she was laying in the street. Dying.

She looked up when she heard him. "Angelo...?" she whimpered. "è il momento di andare adesso...??







*Angel....? Is it time to go now...?

He looked down at her and smiled softly. "Io non sono un angelo, Io sono un messaggero dell'inferno. Non abbiate paura, posso darvi il dono della vita." He whispered brushing her hair off her face. He wanted to see her face clearly on this fine evening.

"Accettare una vita al mio fianco? Una sorella? Una figlia? Una moglie?" He asked softly gazing into her eyes. He wanted to see if she could possible feel the same.

Mora groaned, her fingers entangling in his shirt. "...un messaggero dell'inferno...?" She asked, her eyelids drooping. "Ma si guarda come un angelo...."

She nodded weakly. "Vita ... Io voglio una vita. Si prega di angel..." The darkness was starting to creep into her now. "....per favore...."






*A messanger of hell? But you look like an angel...

Life... I want to live... please angel...

He nodded and moved her so he had one hand free. His teeth expanded at the thought at blood and he brought his wrist up to him mouth and bit into on of the veins.

Slowly he lowered his wrist and poured his blood into her mouth. As long as she swallowed enough, she would turn as soon as death came. "Drink." He said in his native tongue knowing she probably wouldn't understand but it didn't matter now.

Mora barely had enough strength in her to drink, but she did. She weakly grasped his wrist and brought it to her lips, sucking as hard as she could. It hurt to breathe now, but she still tried to drink. Because Angel told her to.

Slowly, almost torturously so, the life drained out of her, her grasp on his wrist slackening to almost nothing.

Then it came back.

Suddenly, her hold on his wrist tightened, and she sunk her teeth, no, fangs, into his wrist, wanting... needing... the blood...

Her eyes were almost completely black with hunger as they flashed around quickly, looking around for a hint of something...

Her attention went back to the blood she was drinking, looking up at the body attached to the wrist.

...Angelo...

He smiled as she finally took to his blood. She would never taste anything like his blood again. It tasted human but had all the adding immortal qualities. "That's it drink up." He said holding her in his arms still. As the seconds passed he finally pulled his wrist away.

"That is enough." He said watching the wound close up before licking off the extra blood to leave his arm clean.

"You need human blood." He said getting to his feet and holding his hand out to help her to her feet. "We both do. Let go hunt." He smirked, his eyes lighting up at the thought.

Amora groaned in the back of her throat as he pulled his wrist away, her eyes still blackened with thirst. She looked up at him blankly, taking his hand and letting him pull her up, nibbling affectionately on his hand without breaking skin.

"Umano..." She repeated breathlessly. "Caccia..."

Her eyes watched him as if he were a god, an Angel.

Her angel.

"Sangue." She agreed. "Sangue."

He smiled as she nibbled his finger. It was weird but he wasn't opposed to it. He liked new things. In fact he was always putting himself in danger to find them. He brought her hand up to his lips and kissed its, his fangs lightly grazing her hand as he did so.

"It's time i taught you to hunt." He smirked taking her hand and pulling her along into a human run, before breaking out at a slow vampire speed. It felt amazing to go at vampire speed for the first time and he was anxious to see how she reacted to this new talent of hers.

Amora shivered delightedly as his fangs brushed her skin, smiling a thousand watt smile. "Maker." She said. She didn't know what it meant, but the word felt... right, somehow.

Running was easy. Easier than it had been a few moments ago. Her skirts, torn now, were easier to move with. It was almost like they were lighter. Less suffocating.

They began to go faster, faster than she'd ever run before. It was like... flying.

She giggled, looking around as the familiar surroundings began to blur together, though her eyesight barely noticed.

She sped up, moving faster and faster until she was going as fast as she could. She laughed outright, loving the feeling.

He smiled and nodded at her name for him. He was her maker. He was the maker of most vampires that walked the earth. His brother was the more sensible one and only made vampires when in dire circumstances.

He ran, making sure she keep up with her pace as she slowly sped up. Her laughter and glee at the thought of being able to run like this had him on the verge of laughter. It felt nice to experience with someone else. Someone besides his brother. They both ran, their feet barely touching the ground as they flew by. He directed them towards the forest and stopped when they were perfectly in the middle of the trees.

"Okay, now close your eyes and take a deep breath. What do you hear?" He asked, placing a hand on his chest. His heart beat no matter how weak could still be heard.

Mora hardly noticed they were in a forest, her eyes going from left to right as new sights and sounds greeted her. She'd never been able to smell this much before, or see this much in the dark. She spun, her eyes trying to take in every sight as she breathed deeply through her nose, trying to smell everything.

Her eyes returned to Angel, and she cocked her head at him, but listened anyway. She closed her eyes and took another deep breath, letting her ears act as her eyes. There were a lot of sounds in the forest, like directly above her, she could hear the scared heartbeat of some little creaure, and farther off, a bunch of tiny heartbeats that seemed to be going faster than anything she'd ever...

She blinked her eyes open as she heard it. Her maker...?

She heard it again.

She searched his eyes curiously, trying to figure it out. Did he have a heart in his pocket? Her eyes glanced at his chest and she furrowed her eyebrows, looking back up at him.

"...heart...?"


((OOC: She's still speaking in Italian, by the way, I just cba to actually translate it anymore))

He stood and watched her as she did as he said. His own senses stretched with hers to make sure he knew what she was picking up. He titled his head to the side slightly, watching her movements. It was clear she was confused. A lot of people got confused when he told him he was a vampire. He smelled and looked human to all those that didn't know.

"I'm human." He said in explanation to her question. "I haven't technically died to get like this." He explained. "It's a long story."

Amora frowned deeply. "Different." She said softly, sadly. "We're different." She put her hand over her chest as she had countless times before, but this time there was no heartbeat. Her chest rose and fell with her breathing, but did she even need to do that?

"I'm...dead?" She asked softly. She let her enhanced senses wash over her, hearing every little movement and breath each animal made, especially the heartbeats. "I... I feel..." she blinked a few times. "Fine." Her eyes, which had turned back to their original brown, darkened. "Hungry."

She looked up at Angel, stepping closer to him and sniffing, her eyes straying the vein in his neck. If she focused, she could hear it rushing through him, pushed by his heartbeat. "I want..." she stepped even closer, only a hairsbreath away from him now. "Can I...?" She was barely listening to herself, not to mention if he was actually talking to her. He's said she needed human blood.

He'd said he was human.

He nodded. "You're like the newer improved version of me. Like apes and humans." He explained. "You are my creation." He smiled tucking her hair behind her ear. "No one can ever truly be like me." He frowned, him and his brothers were two of a kind.

"No you are just as alive as i am. You can live forever. You are immortal Amora, like me." He smiled, grateful now that he had someone to share forever with. His brother was great but he needed some he could love and he was sure he had just found her.

"Hunger is the first thing you feel. You need to feed to complete the transformation. From a human though. A real one." He said looking up at the sky. It was night, no human would be around for a few more hours.

He took in a deep breath and considered her for a second. He could say no but then risk her attacking in broad daylight. Or he could say yes and temporarily quench her thirst long enough for her to catch a human.

He nodded and pulled back his shirt to expose his neck. "Make sure you miss the vital veins. I will not die here." He said brushing back her hair to point to the spot she should bite. "Right here."

She barely heard him over the sound of his heartbeat. It was good he'd given her permission, because she didn't have the sense of mind to stop. Drowing in his scent, Mora raised her lips to his throat, hesitating for a brief second before her fangs sunk into his flesh.

The overpowering sense of wellbeing nearly sent her reeling. She felt flashes of feeling she could barely recognize, blurred faces and places. Her arms wrapped around him, hugging him closer to her so every inch of them was touching. Underneath the rapid flow of emotion was the undercurrent of immortality, and the familiarity of the only blood she'd ever tasted. His scent filled her nose, his blood filled her mouth and his heart beat against her chest. She felt as if she were becoming one with her maker.

She never wanted to stop.

She didn't have the control to stop.

He gasped slightly and closed his eyes against the slight pain in his throat. It was soon gone as the images of his life flashed before his eyes. He could hide them. He could do it quite easily against her young mind, but he wanted her to know. It saved him having to tell her later on.

He allowed himself to get lost in the memories. Thinking back to each one and remembering clearly what had happened that day. His head began to feel light when he began to come back to reality and he needed her to stop. He placed a light hand on her shoulder. "That's enough." He muttered softly until she didn't move.

He took a deep breath and gathered enough power to force her off with his voice alone. "Enough!" He said, his voice becoming a lot deeper and less human.

She'd been enjoying it immensely, his warnings barely reaching her ears until the last one. Her fangs restracted fearfully and she took a step back, missing his warmth before she even let him go. She licked her lips, her eyes still on his neck, before the met with his.

She was still hungry, but...

She felt powerful. She smiled, looking upward. The heartbeat of whatever was up there sped up almost eagerly, it seemed. Barely recognizing she was using vampire speed, she went to the bottom of the tree, sniffing. What was it?

She was sidetracked by a movement behind her, and turning her eyes fell back on her master. She bet that his blood tasted best, but she wanted human. Human. Maybe they all tasted as good as he did.

She was on her way back to him when she was sidetracked once more. A scent this time. It smelled delcious. It was faint, but it smelled of...

Her eyes flashed black.

"Maestro?" She asked softly. "What's that smell?"

His own head snapped to the side at the sound and smell. "That young one is a human. A young, fresh human male." He guessed, you could usually tell by smell and hearing what type of person they were.

"Take a deep breath and close your eyes. Make sure he is completely alone and strike him when hes not expecting it." He said brushing back her hair. "Bite right here." He lazily stroked a finger along her main vein. "A quick and easy drink with an equally quick and easy death."

"Remember don't allow them to speak." He said his eyes snapping to the side as he ran and caught a stag mid jump. He'd had enough human blood for today. Now he just needed a stag to quench his thirst.

Amora's eyes darkened further. A human? She was practically vibrating with want. She wanted that human. She wanted his blood inside her. She wanted to drink him dry.

She ran her tongue over her teeth, feeling her fangs extend. She closed her eyes and tried to focus, but her deep breath hitched when he touched her. Shivering, she tried again, taking a deep breath through her nose. The human was deep within the forest, but not too far away.

She hadn't planned to let them speak anyway.

Moving with her new speed, she followed the scent a half mile away from their location, pausing in the dense brush to look out at where the trail ended.

There, sitting alone in the forest, was the man with the knife.

The one who'd left her for dead.

Suppressing a slight growl, she moved silently around the underbrush, listening as he tossed back another bottle of rum. It would be his last.

As he cracked open a new one, she pounced, knocking him to the ground. He opened his mouth the cry out, but she was already on top of him, her fangs extended. Straddling him to keep him still, she bit into the vein her master had pointed out to her, her fangs easily sinking into his flesh.

She drank until the blood stopped coming, then and only then coming up for air. She gasped, the blood returning her eyes to their normal milk chocolate color. Panting, she stood, her eyes searching the forest around her for her master. Where had he gone?

He stood up and glanced down at the stag laid at his feet. The scent of human blood had been too strong. The stag was the only thing keeping him grounded. He closed his eyes and stayed far back from the human as Amora, drank from him.

He didn't need to see that. He couldn't. He wouldn't be able to stop himself from pushing Amora out the way to claim the blood for himself. Instead he stood there. His eyes pitch black with his hunger as he waited for her to return.

Mora sniffed. She had no idea which way she'd come from. She tried to find a scent from her master, one she recognized, but it was difficult. She kept getting distracted by the other sights and sounds of the forest. Letting out a breath, she closed her eyes.

Maestro.

She smelled it then, deer blood.

Moving quickly, she soon returned to the clearing, the humans blood still smeared across her lips. She smiled happily. "Did I do good, Maestro?" She asked giddily. The blood rushing through her had improved her mood greatly.

He looked up and turned to look at her as she returned. "Uh huh you did great." He said holding his breath as he pulled out his box of matches. He had to make sure the red side of all the matches were showing.

Once the matches were right, he double checked them and stopped walking to lean on a tree. "Wipe your face please." He said closing his eyes.

Mora cocked her head to the side as she watched him, pausing in her advance to lick her lips. There. Sure there was no blood on her, she moved closer to him, her eyes going to the matches.

"Why do you have those?" She asked curiously. "Do you need them?"

She moved even closer to him, her eyes going to his face. "What do we do now, Master?"

He swallowed and closed his eyes as his fangs began to grow out his mouth. He was craving human blood but he couldn't give in. Not after what happened the last time he'd drank.

"It helps keep me occupied." He said beginning to walk away with his hand over his mouth. He couldn't allow a human to see him this way. "So im not... human bloods not good for me." He admitted walking back towards the town.

"Now we get you under cover and out of the sun. It stings like a bitch when the light hits you." He said leading her back to his safe house.
