Flying, Lesson 1; First years Empty Flying, Lesson 1; First years

Post by Certh Salamar Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:02 pm

It was a slow day for Certh, not much homework was given in his first class, which freed up his break to do whatever he wanted. Not being able to find anybody he knew, he quickly strode down to the flying field to get ready for his first flying lesson. The brooms appeared to already be out, but he was the first one there; curious, he walked up to one, and picked it up, examining it.

Charlotte walked towards the field and noticed the same Slytherin boy already there. She shrugged and kept to herself, sitting down on the grass and wondering how flying would feel.

Her classes had been rather exciting. Well, anything was exciting for her on her first day of classes at Hogwarts.

Certh appeared rather bored, being the only one on the field. After inspecting his broom that he was going to be using that day, he stuck it between his legs, and kicked off from the ground rather hard; his parents had already taught him how to ride a broomstick when he was younger, before coming to Hogwarts so he knew how to ride one.

He flew up in the sky for a few minutes, doing dives, turns, and he flew around the top of one of the old broken down towers once, before stopping in mid-air to take a look at the view.

Gabrielle was flying. She swooped and soared. She flew with a grace and beauty well past her age. She noticed she wasn't alone in the sky. There was a boy flying, doing some dives and turns. She flew around in a arch and then waited for him to notice her.

Ryan entered the field with his broom and a bag filled with school brooms, he straight away noticed two students flying on there brooms without his permission which is strictly forbidden even for the older students Ryan became infurious

He noticed another girl was standing there, though she wasn't flying to Ryan's relief he then looked back up at the two students "GET DOWN NOW!!!" Ryan yelled he was absolutely furious with these students

Gabrielle heard a voice. A mad, angry voice. She sighed. She didn't even know you weren't allowed to fly or she wouldn't have done it at all. She hated disappointing the professors. She decided not to do any showing off as she made her way to the ground, so she just did a simple dive, landing on the ground smoothly and gracefully. She began to walk over to him.

"Professor--I'm so, so sorry! I didn't know that flying was off limits, please forgive me,"

Certh steadied his broom in the air, taking a glance around seeing a Gryffindor in the air with him, he gave her a slight smirk and was about to crouch down on his broom handle to have a little 'race' when the Professor walked up. From the looks of him he appeared to be teaching flying; but he was a little late. Wondering how exactly he could make an 'entrance' he had noticed the girl had already dove down, and the professor seemed to be in a rather hard fury down on the ground.

Deciding he did not really want to be expelled or suspended from Hogwarts, Certh leaned forward on his broomstick and came zooming down to the grassy area, quickly pulling up so he would not collide; he waited until almost at the teacher before dismounting.

"Sorry, Professor." He said, taking a small glance to the girl beside him. "I was just, trying it out. Like this girl here, I did not know it was off limits to fly without supervision." He appeared to be apologizing, although his Slytherin hisses appeared throughout the sentence. He continued to hold the broom in his right hand, leaning on it a little as he looked to the Professor. Whether he had knowledge of this rule or not, he wanted to see if it would get him off the hook.

Gabrielle looked over at the girl with disgust and smirked at Certh. "Looks like you've got yourself an admirer." She turned and the sun caught the auburn highlights in her wavy brown hair.

Jessica revealed herself from her hidden position behind a small tree. She walked over to the small group and tossed an apple up in the air, catching it again with ease. She looked straight past the others and was staring at something behind Certh.
"I think there's a group of Nargles behind you," she said. She wore a deadly serious look on her face and shrugged. "Don't say I didn't warn you," she smiled, sitting cross legged on the grass.

Ryan nodded at the two students, "Behaviour like that could cost you suspension, however because you were unaware I will just deduct 15 points from both of your houses" Ryan looked around at the rest of the group

"Thank you to the rest of you who decided not to fly. Now I presume your all here because you desire to build your flying skills" Ryan then stood at the front of the group as they stood beside there brooms

"Ok so we will be learning how to hover today, so place your hand above your broom and say sternly up" Ryan's broom bolted up to his hand he then waited for the first years to do the same

Certh felt rather unhappy, rather, he detested that he had lost points for his house because of some silly rule. But, on the plus side he had already been rewarded five by Karma, so it was not that much of a loss for their house. He continued holding his broom, leaning against it as the Professor thanked those who were not good enough to fly by themselves, Certh thought it was a little pathetic.

He proceeded to lay his broom on the green grass as the wind blew a little, waving the blades. He was already beginning to not like the Professor, but was thankful that he was not already expelled.

Standing beside it, he followed the orders and placed his right hand over the broom handle, then yelled "Up!" but the broom seemed to obey fairly easily, as it shot up into his hand with a few seconds delay between his words, and the actions.

Gabrielle was glad that the professor had let her off easy, but she still didn't like being the person to lost points for her house and didn't even think it that fair to praise the ones on the ground. When she heard the orders from the Professor, she put her left hand over her broom she had put on the grass and said "up" in a rather fake-prim voice. The broom shot in her hand almost before the words were out of her mouth.

Charlotte got up from her spot behind a tree and walked to where the rest of the students were. She saw the professor scold Gabrielle and Certh for flying and then told the class to order their brooms up.

She sighed, not really feeling like flying would be a good idea. She had wanted to try - duh! Flying! Every child's dream! - but now it all seemed so. . . real. Something inside her told her it would not end well.

A little nervous, she placed her hand above the broom and said, "Up!" The broom twitched and rolled on the floor, but nothing happened other than that.

"Up! Up! Up!" she tried again, but still, nothing. She was starting to get frustrated of repeating and was seriously considering just picking it up off the floor, when the broom flew to her hand.

Certh gave a curt nod to the professor. He seemed certain of what he was talking about: as he was the teacher for flying, he had to have atleast some knowledge of the skill. He slowly removed his hand from the broom as it continued hovering there, right by his side; like a companion.

He needed to be very still as he lifted his leg over the broomstick handle, careful not to set it off and crack him right between the legs: that would hurt. After he straddled the handle, he looked up to the professor, his feet were, again, touching the ground: prepared to kick off or whatever it was that Welsh wanted them to do.
