DADA, Lesson 1; First years Empty DADA, Lesson 1; First years

Post by Certh Salamar Mon Apr 02, 2012 8:14 pm

Certh was looking forward to his next class that day, Defense against the Dark Arts. Even though he was wanting to go into the Dark Arts, he still wanted to learn how exactly to defend against them, in case enemies had shot hexes or curses in his direction.

He pushed open the door and made his way into the room, it appeared rather rectangular in shape, the walls were... curvy, in places. Being the first one there gave him an opportunity to think amongst himself, as what it was they were going to be doing that lesson.

Charlotte left the Ravenclaw common room early. She'd already gotten lost after breakfast, and didn't want to be late for class.

She walked in the Defence Against The Dark Arts classroom and noticed there was only one boy there. A Slytherin, but what did it matter, anyway? She was determined not to judge anyone based on their houses.

Sitting down on a chair near the front, Char sighed and opened her book.

Annabell smiles walking in. She sits in the chair squarely in the middle and sighs softly. There was only two other people here, so she decided to get out some things and ready for class.

Post by Jess Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:33 pm

Jessica walked in, feeling confident for once. Defense had been her best subject back at Beauxbatons, but then again, maybe the other girls in her year had been weak... Either way, she was the best in the year, and that gave her a sense of security.

Instead of sitting right at the back as she normally would, she took a seat near the front of the room. She relaxed a little. Defense against the dark arts? How hard could it REALLY be?

Vivian strolled confidently into the Defence Against the Dark Arts class, tapping her book idly against her leg. However, her confidence slowly diminished when she walked into the classroom. She sat in the back of the room, hoping that the professor wouldn't call on her if she was in the back.

Setting her book on the desktop, Vivian surveyed the room. There were only four other students there, spattered around in completely different areas. There was even one girl right in the front. Ambitious.

The others seemed at ease, idly flipping through their textbooks. Vivian attempted to look just as composed and skimmed through the book, secretly hoping this class would fly by.

Guss smoothed his hair back smoothly as he entered his first class at Hogwarts.

He looked good today, he had to admit. Even his glasses were clean- which was bloody impressive for someone like him. Grinning confidently, and blissfully oblivious to a bit of his breakfast stuck in his teeth, he sat next to his fellow Ravenclaw near the front of the classroom.

"Hi!" he exclaimed, trying to ignore the fact that this was indeed a girl.

    Girls had cooties.

But he so wanted to sit near the front- and his mum had said to make as many friends as possible. You're not supposed to question your mummy.

Without waiting for a response of his greeting, he peered over her shoulder towards her book. "What you reading?" he asked, then paused before scoffing loudly.

"Forget those books. Read comics." he nodded. "Much better stuff."

Post by Jess Tue Apr 03, 2012 7:18 pm

Jessica was startled, and looked over to Guss, scowling.
"Oi, you! You interrupted my daydreaming!" she whined, turning back away and looking up at the ceiling, in that sort of snobby way that annoyed her.

She reached behind her head and plaited her long, curly hair. It had been a while since she'd had an outburst like that, and she felt a pang of guilt. She pushed it away. It was his fault...

She got an old book out of her bag about the art of Dance. She received it from her mother, who had gotten it from her mother, who had gotten it from a friend, who had gotten it from... Somewhere. She didn't care about what other people said; it was the best book she'd read in a LONG time.

Charlotte had been flipping through her new book, reading quietly and not paying attention to anything around her. She jumped up, startled, when a boy's voice greeted her.

About four other students had arrived after her, she noted, and looked back at the boy. A fellow first year Ravenclaw by the name of Guss something. Chamberlain, maybe.

"Oh, uh, hello," she said, quietly, "It's a muggle novel. It's really good." She wrinkled her nose a bit, "I'm not really into comics."

Annabell jumps slightly at the boy's outburst causing her to knock her book off the table. Sighing, she picks up the book and sets it down on the table again. She didn't know why she was early in the first place.

Must be from her fear of being late. She didn't want to be the one to get in trouble or noticed. She was perfectly fine with sitting back and watching others getting praised.

Jessica looked over at where Certh was sitting, and flashed a small smile in his general direction. It was only nice to show respect to your fellow Slytherins, after all. She looked around for a while, and noticed that hardly anyone had arrived yet. She was genuinely surprised; she had assumed everyone enjoyed Defense.
"Hey Certh," Jessica said quietly, turning back to her book. Talking? Blushing? What a day...

Certh sat there, patiently waiting for the teacher to arrive. 'How long did it take for them to finish their breakfast, or lunch, or whatever anyway?' He thought to himself, flipping through his book although not even reading it as he caught a glance of a smile coming off from another first year Slytherin in the class.

He looked at her as she whispered something, he could barely make it out before he smiled a little back in her direction. "Hi Jessica" He said, rather shyly. Certh was not usually shy, although it could have been the circumstances.

Post by Jess Thu Apr 05, 2012 7:03 pm

Jessica smiled weakly at Certh and mindlessly twirled her hair, giving up on reading. She was too happy to read. Reading was for when you were bored, and she was most certainly not bored. She stowed the book away in her bag, accidentally giving herself a paper cut in the process.
"Ow!" she exclaimed, not through pain, but mere shock. She looked down at the small cut and glared at it. It didn't bleed, and it didn't heal over. It was seemingly mocking her, and she rolled her eyes at it.
"Wait... Am I having a fight with a paper cut? What has the world come to..." she thought aloud, crossing her arms on the desk and nestling her head into them. "What has the world come to..."

Vivian gave up on reading the textbook with a growl of impatience and looked up. She was surprised to find two other Ravenclaws in this class. She knew Charlotte but the other one she didn't recognize.

"Hey," she called, sliding up a few rows to sit behind the two. She looked at the boy and said, "I don't think I know you. I'm Vivian Hawthorne."

Edith walked into the classroom, she could hear the students talking amoung themselves, they all looked so excited to be here she liked first years they seemed to listen a lot better than the older students do. Edith walked up to the front of the room sipping on her tea before she placed it down on the desk

"Welcome students to your very first Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson, today we will be learning how to cast a spell which will blindfold your target" Edith then gestured towards a large wooden statue which they would be cast their spells on

"Now to cast the spell you hold you wand firmly and then give it a nice sharp flick and say Obscuro" Edith looked around at the students " So please form a line in the middle of the classroom so we can practice the spell

Edith flicked her wand at the statue, and it slide foward to the front of the room

Post by Certh Salamar Fri Apr 06, 2012 5:50 am

Certh appeared rather intrigued when the Professor waltzed into the room. He had only really taken this class to learn how to defend against unwanted spells, wanting to take dueling in his next year. But, his parents also urged him to this class so that he may learn some other spells other then just the shielding defensive spell.

Looking up to the teacher from his wand, she asked to form a line; causing him to stand where he was, continuing to twirl his wand around his fingers as he made his way to the front of the class. First, he gave a slight wink to Jessica as he walked by, and stopped right in front of the statue.

Charlotte turned her attention to the professor when she walked in the room, explaining how they would perform the spell.

To say she was excited was an understatement, but, at the same time, the Ravenclaw was very, very nervous. She watched closely, paying full atention to how the professor performed the spell.

When she said to form a line, Charlotte got up and stood behind the Slytherin boy.

Annabell pops up from her seat a smile touching her face as she gets behind the Ravenclaw girl,

"Well, this is exciting!" She practically bounces on her toes and in her excitement changes languages without noticing,

"Oh, ich kann nicht warten! Ich wollte schon immer so viel lernen in dieser Klasse!"

Vivian was surprised at how confident the Slytherin boy was. Glancing at the professor, she thought if it would be a good idea to go up or not.

"Well, it won't kill me," she thought and then stood with a sigh. She took her place behind the excited Hufflepuff girl and hoped she wouldn't make a complete fool of herself.

Certh glanced back as students lined up behind him, he felt rather excited, being the first to try the spell in his class, and believing that he could do it on the first try. He nodded slightly to the teacher after sending a few snarls into the line as they seemed to push forward. Everybody seemed rather.. immature, pushing, like that would get Certh to go any faster.

He slowly raised his wand out of his robes and held it, grasped it in his right hand. Magnificent thing it was: Rowan, Thestral Tail core, 10 and a half inches. Following the teacher's instructions, he gave his wand a quick flick and muttered the incantation: the blindfold did appear, although it was too thin to really stop anybody's eyesight. But Certh did feel rather amazed that he could conjure that at all, seeing as he had never tried casting defensive magic prior to this lesson.

Edith watched as the boy cast the spell, while the blindfold was thin it was still an excellent for a first attempt espically for someone who hadn't cast a spell before

"Wonderful Mr Salamar, an outstanding cast you may take a seat" Edith then looked at back at the line "Ok next person please"

After seeing Certh do the magic so well, Charlotte suddenly felt more nervous. She'd embarrass herself, of course she would.

She took a shaky breath and a step forward, glancing apprehensively at the teacher before flicking her wand and muttering 'Obscuro'.

Nothing happened, and the Ravenclaw sighed, disheartened.

Charlotte nodded and took a deep breath, ready to try again.

"Obscuro!" she said, in a louder voice this time, while giving her wand a sharp flick. Something very thin and black appeared over the figure's eyes, thought it was way too thin.

    "I guess that's a blindfold," she muttered.
