First Day

Drawing in a breath, Hayden flicked her blonde hair, specially straightened for this, and walked into the large staff room, to find it empty.

Huffing at herself, for working herself up over nothing, she took a sit by the fireplace, reveling in the beauty and the warmth. She smiled, happy it was homely. Her house had always been clean. you werent even allowed to sit on certain chairs.

Leaning back, she kicked off her black boots and clicked. A house elf appeared right away. "A hot chocolate" she demanded. Brushing her cat's hair off her designer robes, she carefully ran her new done nails through her cat's blue fur.

She was thinking about the staff, she would be working with. From what she had the dupty head was a pretty, strict woman who was hard-working and warm to a certain few. Hayden had heard whispers about the headmaster, Hades Malfoy. He kept to himself and was very good at duelling. Blushing, Hayden thought of their encounter at the shrieking shack.

She tapped her foot against the floor while she waited for some staff to meet.

Sam was lost in thought. If he didnt go off into a day dream the monotony of his various cleaning tasks would probably drive him to the brink of insanity. He was suprised to spot somone is the usually deserted staff room. He put his sweeping brush to one side and thought it polite to introduce himself. Sure he wasnt a professor, but he was still a member of staff.

"Good morrow Professor" Sam threw her a friendly smile. "Im the caretaker. Sam Howlin." He held out his hand to shake with her.

Hearing a sweeping broom close by, Hayden turned quickly to see a friendly looking man. "Good Morrow, Professor, I'm the caretaker, Sam Howlin".

Glad to have someone to talk to, she grinned back. "Hayden Starrstone. Professor of Flying. Pureblood" she stated, flashing him a grin. She had always thought herself to be above people: especially above creatures, mongrels, inbreeds, mudbloods and blood traitor.

She wondered if he recongised her last name. After all, it had been in the newspaper when her abusive father had been sent down.

"Why sweep?" she asked, "Can't you do magic?".

"Nice to meet you miss Starrstone." Sam smiled. He was sure he had heard her name somehwere before or seen it somewhere. Maybe he had cuaght it when he wlaked past someone with a newspaper. But he never read the news, every page was just tragedy or scarmongering and he couldnt be doing with it.

"Er, ha" Sam laughed to himself. "Trsut me, its better off i dont use magic, i'll get the job doen better like this. Iv never been good at using magic to begin with. I didnt even know i was part wizard until i cast my first spella t 14. I got bit at 16, and the only training i recieved magic wise was from my uncle, but he gave up on me becuase i was completely useless ha ha. Its not my fault im what he called "a mudd-blood mutt" rather than a pure blood or a pedigree. I cant help who my parents were."

He suddenly felt he wasnt worthy to be in her presence, as though she was on a higher level then him. He had always felt he was below people, but he didnt want to let that bother him, why should that stop him from deserving the same respect as everyone else?

"Is it alright if i sit with you? Ive been working hard all day, plus iv had a lot on my mind so im stressed and would like to just chill for a bit."

"You don't use magic!" she exclaimed. Although she was taught that mudbloods were below her, she felt that there was something good about this man. He was kind, warm hearted and sweet.

For the first time ever, she decided to be nice to him. She smile and told him abit aout her life. "I was born into an ancient pureblooded family. I showed y first sign of magic at 3, when i made myself invisable after smashing my dad's new present. He.." she stopped talking. Allowing him to continue.


As she heard the words 'mutt' and 'bit'. Her clever mind when into to over load. She noticed he tensed in her presence and hung his head, like she was hi master. 'Mutt' she thought. Animagus? She wondered if e coud read minds.


"Is it alright if i sit with you? Ive been working hard all day, plus iv had a lot on my mind so im stressed and would like to just chill for a bit" he asked her.

Hayden grinned and nodded. "This is my cat, Beau" she said, gesturing for him to stroke her cat. The cat hissed.

"No, i dont sorry" Sam laughed. "Im useless at it when i do. The only trick i can do is this." He pulled a hair from his head and transformed it into a white thornless rose for her with his wand. "For you." He smiled.

"And wow, you're lucky. The wizard line in my family is quite weak. Its suprising my sister and i inherited powers at all. I thought it was just her becuase she showed powers at around 10. My dad was so freaked out by it. He didnt even know he had married a wizard ha ha."
He didnt think it wise to ask about her own dad after her hesitation. Dads could be a-holes.

"Ahh cute cat. Its a shame cats dont like me, being a werewolf and all. Its a shame because i like cats, but i just got on better with dogs after i got bitten. I dnt think she or he will be happy if i go near it ha ha"

He pulled a hair from his head and transformed it into a white thornless rose for her with his wand. "For you." He smiled.

She smiled, prettily, lowering her eyelashes as she recieved the rose. "Thank you".
"Lucky!" she snorted. "Do you red newspapers? Did you see what my dadw sent down for" she snorted.
"He didn't know!! You mum never told him!" she exclaimed.

"Yeah, his my pride and joy. My bebe. Werewolf?" Hayden raised her perfectly plucked eyebrow. Almost questioning.

"He will like you. My brother..Gab...he doesnt like it when i reveal his name. His a were...wolf. It will just take time for BEau to warm to you. Stretch out your palm and let him sniff it. Cats can sense if you mean harm".

"Your welcome" He winked. "And noooo, im not a big fan of newspapers, but im guessing it was something bad then..? What i meant by lucky was your must have really strong powers and are able to handle yourself in a duel. Im screwed when it comes to any kind of fighting ha ha. And nooo, she didnt want to freak him out in case he didnt want to marry her in the end. He left her for a ehile just so he could deal with it. He came back in the end, but me and my sister moved out coz we didnt really think much of him by then coz my mum had died two years after he left. He was close behind her. Oh well, i wont bore you with my little orphan Sammy stories ha ha."

Sam sat opposite to Hayden and her cat and held out his hand to it. "My dog is my baby ha ha. And oh really? Your brothers a werewolf too? How did your family cope with that? It didnt go down well in mine ha ha."

She blushed at his wink. "Yeah, bad" she whispered. "I guess I'm alright in duels. I can do non-verbal magic but not wandless. He left you. What an a-hole. Poor you" she murmered, hugging him.

She felt him tense up. She pulled a clip from her hair and turned it into a mirror. "Here. It shows you the past,the present and the future. Keep it"

"Dog? What type?" she asked, she loved dogs but her parents had been allergic to them. The cat looked up at Sam studying him face and then gently licked his hand. "Beau's my familiar. Aww, he likes you. Yeah, Gab...G..my brother was kicked out. My dad was the angriest i ever seen him. He called my brother an idoit for getting him bitten. He wasnt his fault though. I moved out to live with him.He brought me this cat, you know. Greyback bit him" Hayden hissed.

"Ah cool. My friend could do some non-verbal stuff. The only non-verbal thing i can do is my cheesy hair strand into rose trick ha ha. As for trying stuff without a wand..." Sam showed her the scars on the ends of his fingers. "Yes...burnt and hurt a little bit so i dont wanna try that again really ha ha. And yeah, but my friends dad was a bigger a-hole than mine."

Sam was shocked and completely over the moon with joy when she gave him a hug. It was the first time since he'd been there that someone had hugged him first. He loved hugs x) Even if it was a pity hug, he didnt care, a hug was a hug and hugs meant a lot to him.

"Wow, that was amazing how did you do that?" Sam was in awe when Hayden turned a hair clip into a mirror. "Its like a Beauty and the Beast style handmirror aint it? Ha ha. Thats so cool. Thank you so much. I feel bad only giving you a rose. But hey, you ever need a favour, im always around." He smiled.

"Erm...he's a cross breed between a Samoyed and a...you know we never really knew ha ha. My friend and i just found him on the street as a puppy. No-one wanted him so my Uncle Herrick let us keep him at his house. After he got hit by a car and my uncle enchante dhim and did all sorts of magical crap to him really. Hes not like a dog at all now really, and now its even ahrder to define what he is ha ha. He's still a big softie though. Even if he did bite me the other day." Beau licked his hand. "Awwh, he's sweet." Sam stroked the cats chin.

"Ahh, im sorry to hear about your brother. I wish i could ahve met him, i'd have looked out for him. And yeah, it always is the dads that have an issue, whatever the reaosn is. And its not like anyone means to get bitten. We dont walk out with a sign saying "something to sink your teeth into". Aww how sweet of him to get Beau for you."

The hiss wasnt a good sign. Should he even say anything? "Who's Greyback? You dont have to tell me if you dont want to though."

"I love dogs. Is he here with you in Hogwarts?" Hayden grinned. "That must have hurt" Hayden shuddered at the burns. "No one's dad is a bigger a-hole than mine. Non-verbal not that bigger deal. And the mirror just a trick of mine. What's Beauty and the Beast. Don't worry the rose is really sweet" she blushed.

She gently prodded through his thoughts and his feelings about the hugs. Smiling at the memory, she gave him another one.

"Yeah, it was sweet one him". Hayden passed Beau over to Sam and the cat started to purr. "O course no one means to be bit. Dad just didn't understand" she said softly.

"Greyback" she hissed again. "Greyback is a wrewolf. He Enjoys being one. Finds it fun to kill. He meant to kill Gab, I guess you won't tell anyone so I'll tellyou my brother's name, Gabriel. Like the angel. Heard of Remus Lupin. H was also bitten by Greyback. He was a deatheater. Iswear when i see that wolf, he wont ever kill again." she promised.

"Gabriel would love to meet someone like him. He lives near the shrieking shack. Who bit you?" Hayden asked, curling her slim legs under herself.

"Yea, he's always around somewhere. I dont go anywhere without that dog, but once we settle in somewhere he's completely independent."
Sam saw Hayden shudder at the scars on his fingers. "It didnt hurt the next day & by then you're completely over it. It doesnt ahppen to everyone. My sister is able to cast magic without a wand without hurtin herself."
"Beauty & the Beast? you've not heard of it? Oooh! It was mine and my beast friends favorite disney film. A tale of a beautiful woman falling in love with a selfish hideous beast who eventually learns to love and be kind and turns back into a man again when true love breaks the spell."

He noticed Hayden blushed about the rose. She looked adorable when she blushed. He blushed himself when she gave him another hug. "Yaaaay! More hugs x)" He thought. Sam continued to stroke Beau as Hayden passed him to him. "Dads never do. My dad called me a freak. My sister called me...well, not very nice things. I bit her by accident. She's never forgiven me for it."

His attention was well and truly grabbed when she hissed in anger. "I havent heard of him personally, but i know his type, and i cant stand them, its why i tend to avoid other werewolves unless like me they just want to be normal. I've heard of Lupin yea, but ive never met him. If you find this guy and need an assistant to help you make him disappear, im here."

There was quite a lot surrounding the shack that Sam never realised. He lay back and stretched. "I cant remember sorry. I've never been able to find the guy. Im guessing my Uncle hunted him down and killed him. Im not bothered. My sister has been working on a cure for Lycanthropy for years. When she completes it, our nightmare will be over. Your brothers too, if he ever wanted that option."

"Can meet your dog?" she asked, her eyes lighting up like a child's on christmas.

"Wandless, your sister can do it? WOW!" Hayden exclaimed, her pink full lips making an 'O'.

"Disney? Beauty and the beast sounds cool. What sort of beast is he? Like a murderer, beast? Haha maybe we could have a muggle thingy night. What do you call them, DMD, DGE, DVD? In my office of course" she said excited.

She noticed him blush. Aww, she thought. "Your not a freak. You bit your sister. Is she..you know..a wolf?".

"Of course, you can help me get this greyback. His really tough though. I found him one. I couldn't defeat him. He shattered my collerbone" she said, flicking a blonde curl, laughing as it hit Sam.

"My brother would love a cure. Sometimes I visit him on full moons. I'm an animagus you see, and wolfs don't hurt other anigmas. Only humans".

"Yea sure, thats if he's not still following some stranger around ha ha. Just cover your ears a sec while i whistle him coz it'll be loud." Sam walked over to the window and whistled loudly. It was so powerful and shrill. Wolfie would hear it.

Sam walked back over to the couch to Hayden. "She can do a lot without a wand yea. She specialises in healing potions mainly, but she had to learn to channel it out of her fingers after my uncle snapped her wand on her in a blind rage. She prefers not having to pull out a wand."

Sam laughed. Everyone was so dark minded at Hogwarts. "No he's just like a monster-monster, big, hairy, teeth, claws. He's never hurt anyone, he was just a selfish git who got punished by an enchantress. And yea, that would be cool. I havnt had a movie night with a friend in yeeeaaars." He smiled. He wished he had met this person earlier, she was so lovely.

Sam tilted his head to one side and pulled his mouth to one corner when she asked about his sister. "Yea she is... she hates being a werewolf. I didnt mean to bite her. I was transforming but i hadnt had time to lock myself away. She was trying to calm me down and i lunged forward at her shoulder. I didnt want to, it was the wolf instinct."
Sam wiggled his nose as her hair tickled.

"Oh my dear, your collarbone? Well, i wont stand for that. Im not a fighter, but maybe i could at least pin him for you"

Sam double took and was intriuged. "You're an animagous? Wow. My cousin's an animagous. I havnt met that many other animagi though. And not necessarily you know. I came across another werewolf once and we tried to rip eachother to shreds. Then again, i suppose you're right becuase i dont attack my cousin whose an animagous, but i did go after my friend...i hate myslef for that."

His dog Wolfie padded into the room. He completely ignored Sam and jumped up on the sofa next to Haden and licked her hand. Beau wasnt exactly going to be happy about a big lumbering beast of a dog being there Sam thought.

"Wolfie get down. Sorry about that." Sam clicked at Wolfie to move, but the dog just growled at him and continued to lick Hayden. "Oh what have i done now then you big grumpy thing?" Wolfie growled at Sam again. "How did you know about that Wolfie?" The dog barked at him a few times. "Oh really? Well what else has this woman been saying to you? You're supposed to be my familiar not hers you traitorous hound you."
He didnt stop to think that he may look weird to Hayden stood there having a conversation with his dog.

She covered her ears but could still hear his whistle.

"Poor Beast. I'm a bit selfish but i hate to be turned into a...you know" Hayden trailed off. She wondered if sying the word Beast would hurthis feelings.

"Awww, I feel sorry for you both. My animagus is an artic fox" she smiled softly, stroking the rose's velvet petals.

She laughed at his face as her hair hit it.

"My collerbone's alright. No offense but i doubt anyone could pin him". She scowled.

Suddenly a huge dog appeared and bounded over to Hayden. "Awww, what a cutie" Hayden smiled, ruffling his fur.

She giggled as he barked at Sam. "I'm gonna have to steal him" Hayden laughed as he licked her. "Sam, you've been replaced. Haha".

She kissed the dog on his nose.

"Yea...it sucks being a monster. Ha, my friend used to call me Beast-face if i was grumpy." The word monster went over Sam's head by now. "And wow a fox? I dont think iv seen a fox before. But it fits that you would be a vixen." Sam winked.

"I could try to pin him... If not, Wolfie could probably just squish him. Wolfie get down you big fat brute of a dog you" Wolfie grrr'd at Sam in a way that said. "We are not amused"

"Awww, he likes you. Usually, people have to feed him a treat or ten first ha ha. And you want him? Thats fine by me as long as i get joint custody ha ha. Here"
Sam passed her a specialised dog whistle. "You want him, signal him. He loves having a fuss made of him. And yea, he always goes after all the girls dont you you big flirt. All the pretty ones anyway."
Sam ruffled Wolfie's head. Wolfie barked at Sam and gave Hayden a sloppery loving lick on the cheek. "Oh dear, i think my dog is in love with you ha ha, sorry about that" Sam laughed.

"I'm sorry, I shouldnt have brought it up. Well when you grumpy, I'll just make your lovey (voices muffled as dogs licks her mouth) YUCK. I'll just make your dog lick you" she teased.

Sheturned into an artic fx then back agai. "Vola".

"I want full custody" Hayden joked.

"Aww. But I'm not pretty" she blushed.

"Ha ha! I try not to let myself get grumpy. And i dont want that mutt licking me. Besides, he's much happier giving his kisses to you." Sam laughed. "ooooh, i dont know about FULL custody. Do i at least get wekends ha ha. Wolfie will you stop it! She's not a damb lollypop! Get down"
Wolfie jumped down and sulked.

Hayden rose and showed Sam her animagous form. "Wow..." Sam thought.

"You are beautiful Hayden, very much so, no matter what form you're in." Sam smiled at her. "You agree with me, dont you Wolfie boy?" Wolfie barked and wagged his tale at Hayden.

"You meanie. His not a mutt, are you?" she grinned, rufflig his fur.

"Alright, we can have joint. I don't think Beau like me" she pointed ou. Beau was licking Sam's face. Hayden giggled.

"Your lying" she said, going bright red. "I'm not beautiful. The dog only agrees because i fussed him" she pointed out.

"Ha ha, i've rather warmed up to this cat. We could do a pet swap ha ha." Sam joked. "Naaah, i'd be lost without that dog keeping me in line."
Sam stroked Beau and placed him on one of the chairs.

"I dont make a habit of lying Hayden. You are quite mesmerizing. Tis a very seldom thing to find beauty in this world, but you do embody very exquisit physical attributes. And nope, he agrees because he knows i'm right. He only licks to death the pretty girls. You watch, he'll be completely besotted and follow you around everywhere you go now. He's a right player, following girls around."

"Ha ha, i've rather warmed up to this cat. We could do a pet swap ha ha." Sam joked. "Naaah, i'd be lost without that dog keeping me in line."

"I should hope so. Thank you. Your not bad yourself" she said, looking at him. She strked the dog and magiced up a dog bone for wolfie and some tuna for Beau. Pulling chocolate from her pocket, she offered some to Sam.

Wolfie sulked. Sam laughed. "Tough luck boy eh?" He ruffled Wolfie's fur.

"And why thank you" Sam laughed nervously and winked at her. He wasnt used to compliments.

He saw her conjur a bone for Wolfie. "Oh dear, you've it now" Sam chuckled. "Now you've offered him food, you can never be rid of him."
Then he saw the chocolate. "Oh thank you." Sam snapped himself off a piece. "Oh, i have a spare butter beer if you would like one. Its still cold. I buy them but i never seem to drink them ha ha."

Wolfie sulked. Sam laughed. "Tough luck boy eh?" He ruffled Wolfie's fur.

"And why thank you" Sam laughed nervously and winked at her. He wasnt used to compliments.

"I'm sorry, Wolfie but Beau my bebe" she laughed at his sulky expression.
Hayden heard his voice quiver. He was nervously. He winked at her and she blew a kiss back.

"I like him. H can be my other bebe" she smiled, kissing Wolfie's forehead.

"Yes,please" she grinned.

"You said Wolfie was a player. Will my heart get broken?" she joked.

Sam blushed when Hayden blew a kiss at him. Back in the muggle world when he was younger, he couldnt get a girl to give him the time of day. Let alone an attractive one blowing a kiss at him. He felt special x)

Sam handed Hayden the bottle of bottle beer after Wolfie was done rubbing his face on her.

"Ooooh, its hard to say. He has always been a real flirt that dog you see" Sam joked. "But if he is smitten with someone, he will be in love with them for a very long time, and will only stop if he gets his heart broken. He's a loyal thing. Even if he wants to follow that weird woman again, he sees you now, he'll come running ha ha"

Sam handed Hayden the bottle of bottle beer after Wolfie was done rubbing his face on her.

"Ooooh, its hard to say. He has always been a real flirt that dog you see" Sam joked. "But if he is smitten with someone, he will be in love with them for a very long time, and will only stop if he gets his heart broken. He's a loyal thing. Even if he wants to follow that weird woman again, he sees you now, he'll come running ha ha"

She smiled sweetly as he blushed. She had always had guys flock to her but most of them where a-holes. X)

Taking the butterbeer, she took a sip. "Yum" she said, her mouth surrounded by the white froth of the beer.

"Awww, how sweet. What weird woman? He can always come running" she joked, forgetting about the froth.
