lost and found

It was a strange evening when Emelie decided to take a walk with her sharp wire. The only problem was that she'd lost it.

She retraced her steps, leading her to the libary. It was lying on the floor where she'd forgotten it. Emelie picked it up, smiling triumphantly.

She was too busy testing the point, to see that someone was behind her.

Mel was looking for a book on defensive spells she could practice and had found one. She was stupidly walking through the library readin it when she bumped into someone. "Oh my Merlin, I'm so sorry," she apologized. "I wasn't looking where I was going. I'm Amélie, but you can call me Mel. What's your name? And what's that?" she asked, catching sight of the thing in the girl's hands.

Emelie turned abruptly.

"Oh, it's okay, really," she hurriedly said. "Nice to meet you, Mel. Hah, we nearly have the same name. I'm Emelie, but jus call me Em or Emmy so we don't get mixed up."

She smiled pleasantly, and looked down at the wire. "Oh, that's just a wire. I'm a fan of sharp things and I'd forgotten it here earlier."

Emelie looked at the book the small girl was holding. "Defensive spells, huh?" She continued absentmindedly playing with the point, but didn't notice that she'd cut her finger on it.

Mel laughed. "Yeah, what a coincidence! It's nice to meet you Em."

She looked at the wire strangely. "Ok then. I'm a fan of dancing and music in general!"

Mel glanced at her book as Em mentioned it. "Yeah, I've been learning some really great- Um, Em? You've cut your finger and you're bleeding pretty heavily. Here, wrap it in this." The younger girl pulled out a tissue and held it out to Em.

"Dancing and music, eh?" Emelie smiled. "It's probably strange for people to like sharp things but..." Trailing off, she looked down at the wire.

"That's good- oh!" looking at her injured finger, Em shook her head. "I'm sorry! It happens so often that it's stopped hurting I-I'm sorry." She accepted the tissue. "Thanks."

Mel shrugged. "Well there's definitely weirder things to be a fan of. I'm ok with it."

"Wow, how often does it happen? Although I guess it's kind of like working your muscles til they don't burn anymore? A little? You get desensitized. And it's nothing to apoplogize for, it happens to everyone."

Emelie smiled. "Thanks, kiddo."

"Quite often," she said, laughing nervously, "but I'm not recommending it at all. Yeah, something like that." Emelie nodded firmly. "All right, then."

Mel grinned. "You're quite welcome."

Laughing, Mel said, "I should hope you don't recommend it! Soooo... How bout them Chudley Cannons?"
