Divination | First Years

Alena smiled as she entered the classroom, but stopped in the door way. She loved every topic when it came to Divination. She couldn;t believe her Head of House was the Professor for this subject, which was cool. She walked into the classroom and took a seat at one of the round tabled at the front of the class. She placed her bag down and sat.

She looked around the classroom and waited for the Professor to enter. Alena new so far that she was the only one to sign up for this class.

Sophia bustled into her classroom, a content smile on her face. AJ has finally settled down for a much needed nap. With any luck, the toddler would wake with a much pleasanter disposition.

"Good mornin', lass," Sophia greeted her first year. "I trust ye are settlin' in well?

"Now, tae start, what can ye tell me about Divination?" she asked.

"Morning Professor Chaos, Yes one is settling in nicely, thank you." Alena beamed a smile at the Professor. She smirked at the Professor's Question. She looked at her and answered.

"There is plenty of different ways to Explain Divination, as there is many branches that involves attempting to foresee the future, gather insights into future events, or look into the past through various rituals. It is known that Human and magical Creatures are born with seer gifts, but loes it at a eraly stage in life, but some hold onto it. Like some muggles like to think they can read the future through Palmistry, meaning reading the lines on a person's palm or Cartomancy, meaning reading Tarot cards." Alena said with a pause.

"Many people like to think that Divination is a useless branch of magic, but It's one of the best out there. Divination can be joint with Astronomy with observing the movements of planets and stars, calling it Astrology. Also, people who want to seek the future can do Tessomancy, Xylomancy and
Ovomancy. What I like to do most is Crystal-gazing," Alena said as she held her finger up and summoned her small crystal ball, which balanced on the tip of her index finger.

"Crystal- gazing is a refined art, most people see the fog within the crystal ball.Your meant to relax's ones mind and forcas within. I can see the past, loved one's and pictures of future events. It's one of my abilites Professor, as I am a full blooded Fae." She said to the Professor with a small smile.

"Well, ye are certainly well-versed in th' art," Sophia smiled kindly. "As ye say, divination is an art readily lost tae humans, largely owing tae expectations which are seldom met. A great many humans don't seem tae realize that while divination an' divinatory gifts can be used tae foresee the possible future, even the probable future, it cannae foretell th' absolute future. It is far more reliable in seeing th' past. Those of magical blood have a greater appreciation of this.

"Divination is th' most unreliable and fickle art," Sophia said, "which is why so few truly master it, and even fewer possessing no Gifts ever try."

The woman leaned against the front of her desk, glancing up as her familiar fluttered in through the window. Magus briefly alighted on the girl's desk, eyeing the glittering crystal she held with particular interest, before fluttering to his perch in the corner. Feigning disinterest, the raven proceed to preen himself.

Smiling at the bird's antics, Sophia turned her attention back to her student. "Now, jist tae get a feel for where ye're at, knowledgeably, are there any arts in particular ye have questions about?" Sophia inquired, trying to get a feel for future reference.

Alena smiled slightly and listened at what the Professor said. She looked at the window, watching a raven who came onto her desk, looking at the small crystal ball she held. She placed it on the table and watched as the raven went to it's perch. Porpbably the Professor's familier. She nodded and started to ask.

"What will Divination cover in the next 5 year's untill OWL, Professor? Also is there anything you don't teach withing Divination?" Alena asked, wondering what she would learn. She would of course carry on this subject in Newt Level, no doubt about it. She just loved Divination.
