Overall history: James Nickelson was born on October 18th to witch mother Angela Nickelson and wizard father, Alexander Nickelson. He grew up with no siblings, due to the fact that his mother died giving birth to him and his father never re-married. James would say that he had a fairly decent childhood especially given that he was raised by one parent.

As he grew older, James realized that he was different than almost all of his muggle friends that he surprisingly grew up with. He could do weird things at the age of 6 and by the time he was 10, his father finally told him, that he was a wizard. His father had always tried to keep it a secret, because he didn't think James was ever ready to know until he was old enough to go to Hogwarts.

When he was 11 he recieved his acceptance letter into Hogwarts. He was so excited that he would finally be able to learn more about who he was. More than that, he just really wanted to learn magic.

Only two years ago, James was over at his friend's home, hanging out in a treehouse, when it suddenly got struck by lightning and burned to the ground. All of his friends managed to escape and even when they had the opportunity to help him, they left him to fend for himself.

As the house crumbled and burned around the Slytherin, a part of him grew afraid of being trapped in a dark space, and burning to death, hence his fear of darkness and fire. If it hadn't been for his father, who rushed over when he heard the news, James would most likely not have been alive today.
