Demetri sat alone inside the coffee shop, in a booth at the back of the cafe, near a window. He sat, tapping his slender fingers on the sides of his mug of hot chocolate, an odd choice of drink for the hot, humid days of summer.
Of course, hot weather never bothered him, he always wore the same black suits, or long sleeved shirts and black jeans, no matter what the weather was. So for him to be drinking a hot cup of hot chocolate in the middle of summer, wasn't really that unusual.
As he drummed his fingers against the glass, he looked around the shop, red eyes searching, not for anyone in particular, but just for people. He was learning to control his empathic abilities, and he found the way to do that was to enclose himself in a room full of people and try not to let everyone's emotions overwhelm him.
He had succeeded thus far, which made him happy, but he had to be careful not to be too happy or he may have accidentally made someone feel as happy as he did. Looking back down at his mug, when someone noticed him staring for a little longer than neccessary, he brought the cup up to his lips and drank the chocolatey delight.
He kept drinking, a little longer than most people would have, and he was so focused on the glass in his hands he didn't notice someone approaching.
