Lounging lazily on the grass, blonde hair glistening in the early morning light, Ashleen's gaze swayed around the area. The sun was dancing in and out of clouds, causing the water below to twinkle.
By the river edge, children gathered, laughing loudly, splashing each other with the water, and setting off tiny wooden boats flowing down in the current. Their voices rose and fell in calls of excitement, encouragement and defeat. They were racing.
A tiny runt of a boy, obviously one of the older ones little siblings stood close by but just outside of the fun. His own boat puttering along sadly, his wide brown eyes merely longing for inclusion. Ashleen frowned for a moment as she looked upon the scene. Slowly she sized up each child and then the people around her. She folded herself upright, appearing more alert to what was going on around her. She licked her lips thoughtfully and glances around.
The children began to yell again. The races had started again - and the little boy's boat was, once again, behind. Glancing around once more, Ashleen slowly and subtly took out her wand, placing it beside her, hiding it in the long grass.
With a sudden swish the last boat leaped, apparently, over a wave, landing just in front of all the others. It slide smoothly across the finish line first.
Ashleen smiled to herself and fell back into the grass, closing her eyes against the sun. She didn't need to watch the other's take in the winning boy with the inclusion he had longed for.
