Astronomy ~ Lesson Three ~ All Years Empty Astronomy ~ Lesson Three ~ All Years

Post by Colin O'Brian Mon Jan 30, 2012 1:36 pm

Back from another break - a break that Colin felt went most well indeed - he was ready to jump into another lesson.

He since he felt the last class went reasonable well he was going to keep all the grades together once again.

Walking over to the window, and gazing up at the sky which always captivated him, he folded his hands behind his back and waited.

Anna walked merrily into class, nodding curtly at the Professor before sitting on a chair. She crossed her legs curtly and looked at the door.

Casey danced into Astronomy. This was quickly becoming a favorite class of hers: she'd always loved the stars anyway.
"Hello Professor!" she chirped before skipping off to her seat. She nodded to the only other student there. It was a good day.

Kirsten inwardly groaned. Astronomy, oh boy. She hoped this lesson would be good.

She nodded a greeting to Professor O'Brian, and smiled shyly at the two other girls already seated in the room. She sat in the middle of the room, and waited for the lesson to begin.

What the? All years again? No way. What's the problem with the dude? Iris thought grumpily as she entered the tower and saw unfamiliar faces of students greeting her. Except for some that can already be obvious as either higher or lower years. She had enough for one day. The night to be exact. There's nothing more than a good night's sleep. Ha. As if that's possible in the first place.

The Slytherin gave out a silent groan and took her seat beside Anna after greeting the professor with a short nod. Astronomy is making it worse.

"Morning Professor, hope you had a good break." Iris greeted with a smile as she entered the class. She took a seat next to Anna and Eye. "Hey guys. Hope you had good holidays."

As she entered the classroom she realized that her eyes were tearing up. Trying to catch her control and remain under the radar, she just ran into the classroom, gave a quick hello to the professor and sat on the first available seat in front of her.

When she noticed that it was the same seat that Char sat on the last time they were there, she almost burst into tears. Crying was not a part of her personality, she wasn't weak or all emotional but too much was on her back.

I'm not gonna loose her as well, Tesla was determined as she covered her eyes to wipe her tears while no one is looking.

Casey jumped a little as a girl walked into the classroom. Her sadness hit her like a physical wall of deep blue and Casey could tell she was about to cry. She also felt a surge of desperation as the sad girl sat down, wiping her eyes.
Forgetting herself, Casey stared as she tried to figure out if talking to the girl would help or make things worse. Eventually, she got up and walked over, sitting next to the girl. "Are you ok?" she asked quietly, giving the girl a chance to send her away.

Emily walked into the Astronomy Tower and glanced around, she was surprized to that all the years seemed to be combined into one class, as she was looking round the room she saw Kirsten, she gave a smile and walked over to her

She took a seat next to her, then reached into her bag and pulled out her latest copy of Witch Weekly, and flicked through the pages til she found the page she was looking for

"HERE!" Emily exclamied " Isn't he just so spunky, its the Beater for the Falmouth Falcons Quidditch Team, Mitchell Sailor" Emily said as she looked dreamily at the shirtless man, Emily liked Astronomy it was the only class she could bludge and get away with anything

Colin leaned forwad and clapped his hands, "Alright class! Let's begin."

"Miss Grimuld, I will have to ask you to put the spunky beater away for the time being, or he shall be adorning my office wall for the remainder of the year."

"Okay now, last time we were talking about the stories of the stars," he stated as he walked about the room. "Would any of you like to remind me of some of those?"

Emily's eyes widened as the Professor warned he would take her copy of Witch Weekly for the entire year if she didn't put it away, Emily then looked over at Kirsten " Looks like I'll show you later she said" as she rolled her eyes before placing the magazine back into her bag

The Professor asked about the stories of the stars which they were discussing last lesson, Emily tired hard to remember, clearly she couldn't have been paying much attention, but suddenly she remembred vague bits of the lesson

" We were talking about this guy....some hunter..... or something and he was placed into the sky coz he thought he was all that and for some reason they put his dogs in the sky as well" Emily said in reply to the Professors question, hoping what she said did happen last lesson and wasn't just a dream

"Constellations. And all of their petty stories, professor." Iris raised her hand and answered lazily, hoping that her drowsiness won't let her doze off in the middle of the class. Though she was looking forward for it anyway. But she can still manage to recite and recall what they've had, right? No problem with that.

Riley ran up to Astronomy and hoped with all her might that she didn't look too winded. "Soory I'm late, Professor," Riley looked at the teacher and gave a small, shy smile before taking a seat next to someone she didn't know.

Casey raised her hand. "Some of the most easily identified constellations are the Big and Little Dipper. Back in America, when the people in the South still kept slaves, the slaves would call the Little Dipper the 'Drinking Gourd' and say it pointed the way to freedom because the North Star is in the handle of the constellation and there was no slavery in the North. I also know of Draco the dragon, Pegasus the winged horse, Hercules the hero, and Cassiopia, which I believe is a crown."

Colin frowned at the two girls who ran in late.

"Next time I would like you to be here when you are supposed to be lady's," he stated briskly. "This time your losing house points, next time detention. But please take a seat and we will continue."

"A little vague Ms. Grimuld, but in sense, yes that is the story so to speak," he turned to smile at Ms. Frances her attitude amusing him more than it possibly should. "Petty you say? Do you all agree with Ms. France's assessment of the stories of the stars?"

He hummed and looked about the room.

"Why, anyone feel free to answer, do you think we have these stories? What was there to gain from telling these stories? Most do come from ancient times... what were the ancients trying to do? Were they being... petty? Or is there something more to it?"

Casey thought. "I think they were just trying to explain something inexplicable to them. The easiest theory they could come up with was the gods having put the stars there to honor someone honorable or punish someone bad. Also, it kind of gave them something to hope for. A story that could be theirs. One day, they just might be great enough that their fate would be written in the stars for anyone with knowledge to see and admire."

"Thank you Ms. Donohoe, that is a very interesting theory," he smiled at the girl, "five points to Gryffindor."

He frowned at more students came in late.

"Next time I would prefer you come on time or not at all, Mr. and Ms. Gilbert, and Mr. Hades," he frowned at them, "Each of you have lost your house five points, next time it shall mean detention."

"Now, we are speaking of the stories of the skies. Would one of you like to tell me why you think the ancients put so much into the stars; what where they gaining from such things?"
