Certh had, for some reason, awoken early that morning. Whether it was because of the presents, or the sound of the rather large squid thing located outside of their windows in the lake. He did not know why he wanted to stay behind at Hogwarts for the holidays - was it that his parents were busy, or because they never seemed to write to him when he was there. No matter. His presents were located at the foot of his four-poster as he sat up and noticed them: mostly boxes wrapped in green and silver paper - there appeared to be candy, too, which he was not very fond of - but would end up eating it anyway, or give it to Jessica if she was ever in the mood.
After opening his presents, he eyed them up: new slytherin robes - probably from his parents; some sweets; a box that when he held his ear to it he could hear hissing, he would leave that till later to open; and a few other odds and ends. It wasn't much, surprised that his parents were actually rich - he was expecting some sort of broom, or atleast some jewelry or something that he could hold on to for the time he had at Hogwarts.
Soon after, he made his way to the portrait. There was nobody else in the common room - the students that stayed for the holidays must have already been down in the hall, where he had been headed next to dig his teeth into some breakfast. The portrait shut behind him as he could be seen making his way down the Corridor toward the Great Hall.
Certh arrived there about ten minutes later - the staircases continued changing on him, so he needed to find alternate routes and hoped he didn't get lost. It was remarkably empty for being Christmas, only a few students here and there. Almost on instinct, he made his way to the Slytherin table and sat down - his robes brushing the bench as he did so, and almost instantly began dishing a few different dishes onto his plate.
