Mad stepped out from her office, flicking her wand towards the shallow box on her desk. Various tree leaves rose from it, dispersing themselves to each of the seats. Settling into her her chair, she leaned back, elbows propped upon the chair arms as she steepled her hands in front of her.

The door stood open to freely admit those student to saw fit to arriving on time. Quietly, Mad waited.

((OOC: Alrighty, guys. You have until Wednesday to post your arrival, and then you're late. Not advisable - remember Mad takes 20 points for tardiness!))

Flora walked inside her Charms class. She was the first one here. 'Good Morning, professor.' she greeted her.
She noticed leaves on every desk. She chose the desk with a beautiful leaf of Moonflower.

Damian faltered when he noted he was only the second student to arrive. The professor's grim gaze made him feel vulnerable. He couldn't tell if she was frowning, or not. The boy only made it halfway to the front of the room before he decided to sit, lest Professor Lewis thought of any other draughts he might have swallowed.

The boy stared down at the maple leaf on his desk. A leaf? In winter? he mused. He didn't dare play with it, at all. Remembering from the previous lesson, Damian took out his wand out and set it on his desk before retrieving his textbook from his bag. He kept his gaze away from the professor. Damian wasn't really afraid of her, but he certainly didn't want to draw the strict woman's attention to himself.

    J. J. walked in to the room, for once, unlike with the first classes, confident she was on time.
There were only two other students in the room. She was a bit on the earlier side.
She smiled at Professor Lewis as she walked in, "Hullo Professor."
Scanning the room, she saw Damian strictly looking at his text book. Smiling softly to herself she slowly took the seat beside him. She smiled at him and gave him a small nod. She wasn't entirely sure how Professor Lewis felt about before class talking.
She looked at the leaf on her desk. What would they do with leaves?

Lucas entered the class, hoping he wasn't late for the second lesson. "Good morning Professor," he greeted. "Sorry I missed the previous lesson, I was late to sign up." He went to one of the desks and was surprised to find a leaf.

Mad inclined her head. "I am aware of that, Mr. Skywalker," she said. "Have a seat."

With a wave of her hand, the classroom door swung shut. "Wands on desk. Homework out." She summoned said homework, as she added, "Mr. Skywalker, you have until the end of the work to complete the homework you've missed.

"Hover charms," the professor continued. "Who can name for me the most common?"

Jumping, J. J. grabbed her homework out of her bag and placed it on her desk beside her wand.
    J. J. rised her hand as the question was asked. She was quite confident that she knew this one.
"It is Wingardium Leviousa, is it not Professor," she said, after waiting to be called on, of course.

"Correct, Miss Jones," said Mad. "Five points.

"Now, the proper wand movement is a swish and flick." The woman demonstrated with her own wand. "The proper pronunciation is 'wing-gard-ium le-ve-O-sa'.

    "Begin."

Flora picked up her yew wand, practised the swish and flick motion and started, "Wing-gard-ium Levi-o-sa" she muttered under her breath.
Once...Twice...another time... The only thing her leaf managed to do was wiggle on her desk. "Wing-gard-ium Levi-o-sa." her teeth greeted in frustration. Oh! shoot up already! and the leaf did, it shot up and hit the roof with a blunt SPLAT! She looked up to the Professor, her face carefully impassive, only her eyes betraying the horror at being ridiculed and the disappointment.

ok, J. J. thought, swish and flick.
For a few minutes, J. J. just practiced waving her wand in the motion. Over, flick, over, flick.
Eventually she got confident in the movement.
"wing-gard-ium le-ve-O-sa'' she mouthed it to herself a couple of times.
You got this, she pepped herself up as she stared at the leaf.
    She readied her wand.
    "Winggardium Leviosa."
    The leaf sat there.
"Well then," she mumbled to herself, slightly miffed.
    She swished her wand.
    "Wingardium Leviosa"
The leaf may have wiggled a bit, but that might also have been J. J.'s wishful thinking.
She set her mouth into a firm line. She didn't want to let Professor Lewis down. She was her apprentice now. She needed to get this spell.
    Swish, "Wigaridum, " Flick, "Leviosa."
The leaf swooped up in the air for a moment and then fell back down.
    J. J. smiled. It wasn't perfect, she should have control over it, but it was definitely a step in the right direction!

Damian obediently picked up his wand and pointed it at the leaf. Lumos hadn't been too difficult... surely Wingardium Leviosa couldn't be much harder.

    Swish. Flick. "Wingardium Leviosa!"

The leaf might have twitched, but Damian seriously doubted it. Hmm...

"Perhaps with a bit less agitation, Miss Evans," Mad spoke dryly to Flora as she put another leaf in front of the girl.

"Well done, Miss Jones," the woman praised her apprentice. "Continue practicing. Everyone remember that focus is key in the performance of any magic."

Jamie walked into the classroom and saw she was late. "Sorry professor". She took her seat to see she had a leave on her desk and was a little confused. She placed her wand on her desk and got out her book. She saw the other students doing a spell with there wands. Jamie listened carefully to hear what they were saying. When Jamie caught the words she picked up her wand and pointed it to the leave. Jamie swished "Winggardium and then flicked Leveosa" Jamie said. The leaf went into the air and Jamie was impressed.

Mad's expression was as dour as it always was when Jamie arrived late to the classroom. "Twenty points for your tardiness, Miss Malfoy," she informed the girl.

"Those of you who have succeeded in performing Wingardium Leviosa on your leaves may practice the charm on something with more mass."

Jamie knew she was going to get points taken away so she just rolled her eyes and looked to see if she could do the spell on something else. Jamie looked at her potions book and shrugged. Jamie picked up her wand and pointed it at the book swish "Wingarduim flick Leviosa" Jamie watched the book float into the air. Jamie focused on the book.

    J. J. smiling softly at the Professors slight praise practiced the spell a few more times on her leaf, watch as she gained more and more control over how much it moved before looking around for something heavier.

She saw her textbook on the table but thought that still might be a little too much mass. She bit her lip trying to think of something better.

Her face brightened as an idea came to her and she started rumaging through her book bag. She pulled out her pencil case.

    This should do nicely.

Setting it on the table she sighed and rolled her shoulders, getting comfortable enough to concentrate on the object and the spell.

    Finally she readied her wand.

    "Wingardium Leviosa."

The case hovered a few inches off the table before coming back down with a dull thud, that for some reason seeemd to echo through the room - at least to J. J.'s ears it did. It was probably nothing to everyone else.

Nodding she looked at it intently.

"As good a start as any," she mumbled.

Then she readied her wand to start again.

Flora sighed and tried again. Relax Flora, she can't beat you up. She'd insult at the most... "Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa." the leaf threatened to shot out again. No! freeze! it did. Ok, a bit higher, yes that's it. A bit on the left, ok. A bit on the right... Slowly a smile crept into her face as the leaf danced at her will.

It had taken Damian a few tries before he'd gotten his leaf to do as he willed. A few minutes more and his inkwell was, unsteadily, doing the same. The boy glared at it and it stabilized. Then, it sunk back to the desktop even though he willed it to remain in the air.

The boy was finding that Charms weren't coming to him quite as readily as Transfiguration and Potions were. This bothered him. Though, logically he knew he couldn't be excellent at everything, that certainly wouldn't stop him from trying.

Glaring menacingly at the inkwell, he practiced some more.

Letting her pecil case drop to the desk with a thud, she pulled out a quill and held it poised in the air, ready to begin her essay - or at least the ideas.

Aquila knocked on the door of the charms room, and waited nervously. Professor Lewis was strict, he had hear that from Cepheus. If there was ever a teacher he was going to misstep with it would be this one.

"May I speak with you a moment Professor?" he decided that Professor Lewis should like it better if he discussed his absense until this moment quietly rather than to yell it across the room, as he had been come accustiom to.

"The younger Mr. Turrow," she stated. She gazed at him intently, waiting for him to speak, though there was nothing expectant about her expression - in fact, the woman was quite expressionless.

"Hello Professor," he smiled at her slightly - not that she was going to smile back. Her face was unnervingly blank. Still, Aquila went on with what he was going to say, "I was wondering if it would be at all possible to join your class; I understand it is late, and I do have a note explaining my late arrival to the school if you wish to see it. It is not an excuse, just an explaination. I would do all that is required to catch up, and I would like to get started as soon as possible. But I understand if you would like to wait for the next class to resume before I entered, for this class is already well on its way to completion."
