Lesson Four - 1st Years Empty Lesson Four - 1st Years

Post by Edith Miller Tue Feb 21, 2012 1:29 pm

Edith entered the classroom, she walked up to the front of the desk and placed down her books. She was slightly pleased about returning to teaching after so long having recently done her PhD in Defensive Spells she felt confident this should be a good lesson

Edith then flicked her wand at the board, writing suddenly began to appear it read "Knockback Jinx" Edith then glanced up at the clock behind her and saw to it was anohter few minutes until the lesson started, she hoped the students would be on time, however she had heard the most of the professors who taught this class had been some what absent, resulting in students no bothering to show up

Back to class. At least it was better than being crownapped, Savannah reminded herself as she walked into class, expecting to see Professor V. Blinking up at the woman she found there instead, she waved, sitting down in any random seat, "Hello, is Professor Vandever ill?"

Edith looked over towards the door as a student entered, she seemed to have a confused expression, she had asked if the previous professor was ill

"No Professor Vandever has decided to leave this position for other things, Im Professor Miller" Edith then walked behind her desk and began writing down some notes and ideas she had for other classes

"Ah," Savannah said with a nod, fidgeting slightly before glancing back up at the new professor, "Well, it's nice to meet you, Professor Miller. I'm Savannah Lerran,"

Storm walked to class. She went in the door, having learned not to be surprised if there wasn't very many people there.

"Hello Prof-" Storm was slightly confused to not having seen Professor Vandever, but somebody else. She waved and sat down at an empty desk.

Vincent entered the classroom in a swift walk and stopped at the door he took in that there was a new teacher and he smiled. They might actually learn something now.

He bowed low and said "A pleasure to meet you, I am Vincent Furtell, First Year Ravenclaw" he found a seat and organised himself.

His wand resting on the desk his books on the floor and his eyes on the door waiting for other students.

Edith nodded at the two other students who entered the class, she then glanced up at the clock realizing the lesson was due to start now, even though she only had three students she decided that she simply must start and perhaps the other students will wonder in later

" Class for those who don't know me I am Professor Miller, today we will be learning about the knockback jinx. This spell is very useful if you want to knockback someone who is perhaps trying to do you ill harm, this spell can also knockback objects therefore you might use this spell to create a distraction while you escape. While you can knock back a person with this spell it depends on how well the caster has mastered this spell and their intent"

Edith then pulled out her wand " To cast this spell you must hold your wand out as such ensuring you have a firm grip on it, then you must swish it in a circular motion and say the incantation Flippendo" Edith then looked around at the students making sure they all had their textbooks on their desks

" Firstly you will just practice this spell on your textbooks, so you will cast this spell on your books an attempt to knock them off the desk, once you have mastered that we will try it on a more human like figure" Edith said gesturing to a large wooden figure resembling a human which was placed in the front corner of the room

Vincent smiled widely his textbook resting on his desk he moved it to the centre and grabbed his wand, he gripped it firmly and aimed at his book. He swished his wand in a circle and said in a moderated voice "Flippendo" the jinx hit the book it wasn't an accurate shot and hit the right side the book shot off his table and across the room.

He yelped and laughed nervously, this was fun he quickly ran to his book and returned it to his desk sitting gladly he smiled up at the teacher "How was that?"

Edith observed the Ravenclaw boy attemping the spell, while it wasn't perfect he still manged to knock the books off the desk, he then asked how his attempt was

" That was a decent attempt Mr Furtell, however I believe you need to sharpen your aim. Perhaps try it a few more times" Edith then scanned around at the other students seeing how their progess was going

Post by Savannah Lerran Sun Feb 26, 2012 8:10 pm

Glancing over at her textbooks, she stacked them up before pulling her wand out, observing her books for a moment. Swishing her wand in a circular motion, Savannah said, "Flippendo."

The beam of light shot towards her books, but all it did was move them an inch. Glaring at her wand, Savannah tried it again, speaking a little louder and moving her wand faster. This time her books went flying off her desks, crashing down beside them.

You could've done better, you know.

Gritting her teeth, Savannah picked up her textbooks, intent on getting this spell right.

He planted his book in the centre of his desk again, he gripped his wand extremely tight and he held his arm out straight, he glared a the book his face a contortion of concentration. Unusual for him.

He swished the wand in a circle and with a voice strained by intense thought he forced out "Flippendo" the spell hit his text book directly on the binding, but the angle he had shot it at had made it hit the top part of the book, it shot toward him. He stood in the exact same position and let out a grunt as the heavy textbook slammed with great force into his gut.

He moaned and picking the book up from the floor he pressed his stomach and flinched that's going to hurt in the morning he placed it back on the desk and tried again.

"Right," Storm muttered under her breath. She lifted her wand, and pointed it at the textbooks. "Flippendo."
The spell hit the textbooks, but not completely right. They bounced off the desk clumsily. Storm bit her lip, picked them up, and decided to try again.

"Flippendo!" she said. This time it hit slightly better, and her books flew off her desk and onto the floor. Storm sighed, and picked the textbooks up. She needed to get it right.

Edith continued to watch the students practice the spell on their textbooks, after a while she decided that they were ready to try casting their spells on the wooden figure, she then pulled out her wand " Accio" she said swiftly pointing her wand at the figure. The wooden figure then rolled to the front of the class

Edith then turned around to face the students " Ok students, I believe that you can perform the spell to a decent level, so now I would like you to try and cast your spells at this human like figure an attempt to knock it back, so now quickly make a line so we can get under way"

Edith stood back as the students began forming a line in the centre of the classrom

Getting up quickly, she glanced at the other students for a moment before heading towards the wooden figure, finding herself first in line. Clutching her wand tightly, Savannah glared at it for a moment before looking up at Professor Miller, her expression clear, "I'm ready Professor."

Savannah was the first girl to quickly jump into line, Edith liked her willingness to try out the new spell " Excellent Miss Lerran, I like students who are bold enough to take the first place"

Edith then gave the girl a slight nodd "Ok Miss Lerran you may cast the spell" Edith watched as the girl prepared to cast the spell at the wooden figure

Smiling at the Professor at the compliment, Savannah turned back to the dummy, staring at it for a moment.

You know, if you pretend one of those girls who attacked your friend is the dummy, I bet you'd do the spell much better.

Blinking in surprise at the voice's help, she smirked, taking it's advice. Swishing her wand in a circular direction in a sudden burst of anger, she rang out, "Flippendo,"

The beam of light shot from her wand, hitting the figure and moving it back about a foot. Breaking out into a grin, Savannah rubbed her hand together gleefully. Thank you.

    Oh, you're welcome.

Edith watched the girl perform the spell with great gusto, she knocked back the figure about a foot or so which was pretty much the full potential of this basic knockback jinx

" Outstanding Miss Lerran, that was quite impressive" Edith then gave her smile then looked at who was next in line "Ok Mr Furtell your up, quickly now"

He gave a small round of applause to Savannah as he politely stood in front of her, he concentrated his face not the usual smile.

His wand at the ready he focused completely on the chest of the dummy, he aimed at it and with a loud voice almost shot "Flippendo" the light erupted from his wand and struck the dummy exactly where he'd wanted it rolled back quite a distance, it probably wasn't that far, he smiled happily and bounded out of the way watching the third girl.

Edith observed the boys attempt, he too manged to move the figure about the same distance as the Gryffindor girl did, Edith was most impressed, it seemed this group of first years all displayed high skills in Defensive spells

"Brilliant Mr Furtell, such an impressive cast" Edith then looked at the last student a Gryffindor girl who still had to try the spell, Edith expected she too would do excellent at this spell after having practiced it multiple times on her textbooks

" Ah ok Miss Everlee you may start when you feel comfortable" Edith then gave her a slight nodd

    Right.

She focused and furrowed her brows.
"Flippendo!" Storm said loudly. The spell hit the dummy exactly where she planned, and it was sent a distance back. It seemed like very far for her. She smiled an strolled over to her desk again.
