Lesson One, First Years.
Charlotte walked into her Charms classroom and noticed no one else had arrived yet. She wondered what she would do in Charms, if she would learn any spells already or not.
She took her wand out and examined it. So. . . unusual. A wand. She thought back to a few months before, when she thought wands were not real. How things had changed.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Jessica leisurely strolled into Charms, early. She took a seat near the back, as usual, and got out her wand, putting it delicately on the table. Charms had been one of her strengths, but there were bound to be people who were better than her. She looked around, and was quite surprised to see a lack of people.
"I must be really early..." she muttered to herself. She shrugged it off and sat in a daydream for a while.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Annabell walks in humming lightly to the hogwarts school song. She found it quite funny. She sits down directly in the middle once more and sees the girls from earlier, "Oh! hello again!"
She smiles lightly at them and opens her bag pulling out her supplies that were needed.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Vivian walked into the Charms classroom feeling better. Charms was one of the easiest things for her. Magical Creatures and Potions were her strong suit but Charms was fairly simple.
Feeling daring, she sat in the front and then noticed the three other girls. Vivian waved at them joyfully and then started scribbling random drawings in her sketchbook as she waited for the class to begin.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Charlotte turned, hearing other people arriving, and saw two of the three girls she'd met at the field.
"Oh, hello Annabell, Jessica," she greeted them, smiling, and turned to the other Ravenclaw girl, remembering her from the sorting. "Hi, I'm Charlotte. You're Vivian, right?" she asked.

Vivian glanced up at the girl addressing her, recognizing her from the sorting and the defense against the dark arts class. "Oh, hi Charlotte! Yes, I am Vivian."

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Soon, Certh came walking in briskly to the Charms classroom, pushing the door open with his one free hand: his other hand held his book. First glancing around to see if anyone else he knew was taking this class, noticing Jessica was also there: he proceeded to take a free seat that was beside her on the other side of the aisle.
He did not seem to understand the feelings he had for her, being only 11. He thought perhaps friends, but he did not know if they stretched further then that. He placed his book on the desk with a rather loud THUD, and then sat, taking out his Rowan wand with Thestral tail hair, and placing it right beside his book: the wand continued to be grasped in his hand, as he looked forward to what this class would bring.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Jessica looked up and jumped slightly when she heard Certh's book hit the table. She laughed it off, and sat back in her seat, relaxing slightly. She watched him carefully, examining his every move, and smiled to herself. He seemed like the type of person she would get along with.
"Hey Certh," she grinned, taking a deep breath and forcing herself not to go awkward and quiet.
She didn't want to admit it to anyone, but she felt her heart skip a beat when she realised who it was who had sat next to her.
"Wait, Jess. You're eleven.. You don't fancy boys at eleven! Boys have germs and stuff at eleven... But then again... Wait, no!" she fought with herself under her breath, but realised she'd been speaking slightly louder than she'd intended to.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
As she jumped, Certh saw out of the corner or his eye a little giggle coming from her. It kind of made him smirk a little; he did not realize that the book had slammed that hard onto the desk, let alone thinking it would scare anyone. He soon had leaned his left shoulder against the concrete wall, while facing the north east corner of the room with his wand still in his grasp.
He looked back to her as she spoke: more then just a whisper, like she had done in the class prior. Certh gave her a slight nod, and a little chuckle erupted when she grinned. "Hi" he replied, not seeing a need in speaking her name; they were the only two near the back of the class.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Jessica felt herself burning up. She didn't fight against it; what was the point?
"Wow, is it really hot in here, or...?" she asked, braiding her hair in a simple plait down her back.
She took a deep breath again and took hold of the edge of her seat, as if it was the thing stopping her falling. She let out a nervous giggle, and hit her face on the desk.
"Since when did I giggle?!" she groaned, not lifting her head.

Lenora walked into the classroom and saw her students. She walked to her desk and pulled out her wand. She wrote in large letters Wingardum Leviosa. Lenora turned to the first years.
"Hello everyone quiet down. My name is Lenora Malfoy, but call me Professor Malfoy. I'm your charms professor. Now, can anyone tell me what the spell Wingardum Leviosa does. Raise your hand may I add" Lenora looked for anyone who knew it.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Jessica's hand shot into the air, and she grinned to herself.
"Professor Malfoy, Wingardium Leviosa's a levitation spell. Didn't one student, ages ago, set his feather alight doing that spell?" Jessica giggled slightly at the thought of someone causing an explosion over such a simple spell.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Certh was a little amused by Jessica's giggle - again. By her question, he was about to answer when the teacher then waltzed through the entrance to the class. He did not believe it to be hot at all in the room, if anything it was quite the opposite: cold, for the time of year.
Certh was looking anxious to begin the class as the teacher wrote the spell for that lesson on the board: the levitation spell; his parents had told him about that one before school. It was a easy one, as per their stories, but was rather useful.
He noticed Jessica's hand pop into the air and speak the definition that Prof. Malfoy asked for. He was just a second too late, but just sat there listening rather intently, a smirk brooding on his face.

Jessica blushed faintly again, and turned to face Certh with a questioning, yet somewhat adorable look. "What's the smirk for?" she asked, her soft, amber eyes gazing intently into his. After a while of doing so, she quickly turned away, her heart pounding. "What's happening to me?" she whispered to herself.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Certh was a little surprised when Jessica looked to him, and noticed a rather distinguishable blush coming from her cheeks. His eyes, however, soon had locked with hers as a question arose about his reaction to her hand. "No-nothing." He paused, continued to hold his wand in his hand. "It is just - you stuck your hand up awfully quick." He told her, now instead of a smirk, it was more of a small smile.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
"Oh, that... Well, uh... If you know the answer, you might as well answer it quickly, right? Or is that just my logic...?" Jessica said, looking back at Certh, her naturally wide eyes glittering in the light of the room. She began absentmindedly twirling her hair, and returned his smile. Her heart was still pounding in her chest, so much that she was surprised it wasn't visible under her shirt. She bit her bottom lip for a minute, just thinking about... Stuff...

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Charlotte was about to say something to Vivian when the Professor walked in, introducing herself as Professor Malfoy.
When she asked if anyone knew what Wingardium Leviosa did, the young Ravenclaw tried to remember what she had read in her Charms book. Sure, it had been a while ago since she read that book - as soon as she bought it -, but she knew it was inside her mind.
Leviosa. . . levitation! That's it. She was about to raise her hand, but Jessica was faster and answered the question. Charlotte grinned when the girl's answer was similar to what she had though of - that meant she wasn't as behind on all this magic stuff as she thought she'd be.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Vivian's heart nearly dropped when Professor Malfoy walked in and asked a question about the spell. She had no idea! Why had she even been put in Ravenclaw? She wasn't smart at all!
But then... she realized that the words of the spell kind of implied its meaning. Wingardium... wings, flight and there was also leviosa... like levitation. Vivian could see that Charlotte had made this connection as well when she saw the girl start to raise her hand. However, it was the Slytherin girl who beat her to the punch.
"Well, I at least managed to figure it out too," Vivian thought proudly to herself, feeling optimistic. "Perhaps I'll know the next answer."

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Jessica sat bolt-upright, trying to avoid any awkward eye-contact with Certh. This proved to be very difficult, and instead the watched the empty space over his left shoulder. She hoped that he wouldn't notice and ask her what she was looking at. She came up with an excuse for if he did, just to avoid having to stutter and make a fool of herself.
"Just say that you saw some Nargles or something..." she thought, smiling subconsciously. Her eyes found their way to Certh's, without fully meaning to do so.

"Correct Miss Lupin, 15 points to Slytherin, today we will be learning that spell. Here are feathers" Lenora magically handed out feathers to each of her students. "Now I want you too point the tip of your wands to the feathers and say Wingardium Leviosa" Lenora pointed her wand at her feather and swish and flicked her wrist and said those words. The feather floated into the air. "You try" Lenora looked at her students.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
A smile soon grew on Certh's face as he noticed Jessica looking at him, or rather, his shoulder. Knowing there was nobody behind him, he continued going on his normal routine of twirling his wand around his fingers when the Professor had replied.
He gave a wink to Jessica, 15 points to their house. Perhaps she was a good person to have around him. Prof. Malfoy then demonstrated the spell, and Certh appeared to be the first to attempt it. It seemed easy enough: pointing his thestral tail core wand to his feather, and lightly tapping it, he swished his wrist and flicked the wand down, touching the feather as he repeated the incantation. "Wingardium Leviosa" Which had caused the feather to lightly hover before it touched the desk again. He almost had it, couldn't keep it in the air for very long nor control where it levitated to.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Jessica grinned happily to herself. 15 points because she knew an answer. That was quite a proud moment for her. She watched as Professor Malfoy demonstrated the spell.
"Wingardium Leviosa," she said with a slight tone of confidence that seemed to come from nowhere, swishing and flicking her phoenix feather core wand at the feather. It shuffled slightly on the desk, but did not rise. She glared down at it.
"Wingardium Leviosa," she repeated, doing the same action and watching as it refused to rise off the desk.
"Wingardium. Leviosa!" she said impatiently, yet it did not rise. She wondered if she had said the incantation wrong, and just continued glaring down at said feather.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Charlotte found herself facing a feather in her desk, rather nervous about her first try at some magic.
Alright, she thought to herself, you can do this, just copy the wand movements. Simple.
"Wingardium Leviosa," she whispered, copying the wand movements. Nothing happened. She sighed and tried again, a little bit louder this time, "Wingardium Leviosaa!" Still, nothing.
She looked over at the others. . . the Slytherin boy - Certh - seemed to have gotten the feather to hover. Listening to the boy's pronunciation, she shook her head. Of course, she was saying it wrong, putting a bit too much emphasis on the 'a', where it should have been on the 'o'.
Deciding to try it once more, she concentrated, thinking back to the day when she bought her wand. "Eleven inches willow with Phoenix feather," the woman had told her, "Excellent for Charms."
Some sort of confidence went through her as she said, in a clear voice, "Wingardium Leviosa."
She sighed in relief and a smile appeared on her face when she levitated the feather for a few seconds, before she lost control of it and it flew back down. She'd have to work on that later.

Re: Lesson One, First Years.
Vivian stared blankly at the feather. The Slytherin boy had already managed to make it float while his companion was also glaring angrily at her grounded feather. Vivian looked up to see Charlotte levitate her feather for a few seconds.
Looking back at her own feather, she shrugged, thinking, "Well, as long as it doesn't burst into flames, I'll be happy."
Taking out her wand, she admired the 12 inch long rosewood before pointing it at the feather and saying, "Wingardium Leviosa."
Typically, the feather merely twitched and then did nothing. Vivian paused and cleared her throat before trying again. "Wingardium Leviosa!"
She nearly fell out of her chair in surprise as the feather slowly drifted up. Grinning happily, Vivian murmured to herself softly, "Hey, maybe I can do this!"
