Equitation Lesson One, First Years

Mel skipped happly to Equitation Lessons, adding a twirl every once and a while. She loved horses and was looking forward to riding one. She looked around and was disappointed that there was no one else there yet, but took up her time dancing to somemusic she heard only in her head.

Laurent was slightly nervous about this class, dealing with such a big and powerful animal though he hoped he would learn something and succeed in this class. As he walked out onto the grounds he saw a girl there already, Laurent had a puzzled expression on his face as he watched her twirl around in her own little world

Korrie was excited to finally arriving at school. Korrie walked onto the grounds to see Laurent already there along with a girl. Korrie ran up behind Laurent.

"Laurent Dubois you're under arrest for not greeting your friend" Korrie said to him and smile. Korrie looked at the girl. "Hi I'm Korrie Johnson" Korrie introduced herself to the girl.

Mel stopped in mid twirl and blushed as she realized there were people behind her. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear nervously, she smilied and said, "Hi, I'm Amélie Blanchard, but you can call me Mel. Aren't you excited to work with the horses?"

Chantelle walked up to the small group. "Hello my dears, are you ready for an exciting year?" she asked them, with a welcoming smile. She loved the first years, they were all so sweet and innocent.

Laurent turned around as he heard a familiar voice, as he turned around he saw it was Korrie he was so happy to see what he considered to be his best friend taking this class, Laurent went up and hugged her

"Im guilty as charged your hounour" Laurent said with a smirk, the other girl then introduced herself and asked were they excited about working with horses. Laurent then gave a nervous giggle

"Ah...well... lets just say words can not explain how I feel" Laurent said meekly. A woman approcahed the group she was the Proffessor if he could remember correctly, Laurent placed his feet into 4th position and bowed to her

"Yes madam, im quite excited" Laurent replied

Korrie smiled and hugged Laurent back. "It's nice to meet you Mel" Korrie said to her. Korrie then nodded. "Yes you did Laurent but since you're considered my best friend I forgive you" Korrie said to him.

"I no, you're excited, like me" Korrie smiled and clapped her hands and then put them by her sides. She heard the professor also the head of her house come by. Korrie smiled but then saw Laurent bow. When he was back in standing position she whispered in his ear. "That's head of my house and the professor, you also don't need to bow Laurent" Korrie whispered to him.

"Yes, very excited like my friend Laurent here" Korrie smiled, she couldn't wait to start the class.

Mel smiled at the boy. She could tell he was nervous. "It's ok, horses are really gentle. They're only mean if they've been treated badly and there's no way the school treats the horses badly. We're probably getting only the gentlest ponies for our first ride anyway."

Mel smiled at the lady. "Yes Madame, I'm really excited! I love horses and always have."

Laurent blushed as Korrie said he didn't have to bow, "Oh... im so use to my ballet classes we have to bow to each other" Laurent whispered back

Mel said not to be afraid because the horses would be gentle " I guess, but still a little imtimadting" Laurent remarked

Korrie patted his head. "It's okay Laurent" Korrie gave him a smile. Korrie listened to their conversation. "Why do you say that Laurent" Korrie asked.

Laurent then turned Korrie, she had asked why he thought horses wer intimindating " Well they are such powerful animals, I mean they could break or jaw, leg, arm or even worse kill you. I mean I know we learn to control them so they don't harm us hence why I chose this subject..... but do we really control such a powerful animal" Laurent remarked

He then glanced up at the professor hoping he wasn't speaking loud enough for her to hear

Mel heard Laurent's worries and walked up behind him to whisper, "Horses are gentle, I swear. They won't give us any likely to break arms or legs on our first rides anyway. We'll get gentle horses, I promise."

Laurent looked over at Mel as she reassured him they would be giving them quite tammed horses, Laurent nooded his head

"Yeah your right, the school would make sure they gave us gentle horses. right nothing to be afraid of" Laurent said trying to think logically and calm himself

Korrie touched his shoulder. "Don't worried Laurent, the horses aren't going to hurt you, if they do I will kick their asses" Korrie said with a smile. Korrie was trying to be helpful and she felt like it was working.

Chantelle gave a grin to the kids, "You certainly seem more excited then last years bunch!" she chuckled "I have a feeling you will be my best class yet!" she exclaimed laughing, she said that to every year, but they didn't need to know that.

"Okay dears, before you go and get introduced to your horses we will need to get the health and safety rules down." she informed them, climbing on the fence taking a seat. "So what do you think you need to be wearing when you go riding?" she asked.

Mel listened as the Professor began talking, then raised her hand and piped up at once. "You need a sturdy pair of pants, like blue jeans or special riding pants, sturdy shoes or boots, and a helmet probably since we're new riders."

Laurent frowned as the professor asked the question, he had no idea really he had no experience with horses, he was incrediably grateful that Mel was there to answer the questions it, it definately help concela Laurent lack of knowledge in this subject

Laurent then nodded thoughtfully at Mel's response pretending as though he was an expert in this field trying to impress the professor

Korrie didn't no the answer. She heard Mel say what seemed like the answer. Korrie has watched people do those things, wear special pants and boots along with a helmet on TV. Korrie saw Laurent nodd and whispered in his ear.

"Stop nodding like you no the answer" Korrie smiled because she knew she won.

A grin appeared on Laurent's face as he heard Korrie whisper in his ear, he then turned his head slightly towards here trying not to make it look like it was too obvious that he was talking during class

"And who says I don't know the answer" Laurent whispered back with a smirk

Crystal stepped out from behind Laurent, smiling innocently. No-one had noticed her presence, so she had just stayed silent. Her long, blonde hair was pulled back into a neat plait, and she nodded politely at the group. She looked over at the professor, her eyes gleaming, and put both of her hands behind her back.
