Lesson Two - second years Empty Lesson Two - second years

Post by Guest Sat Sep 03, 2011 2:28 pm

Professor McGonagall chose to write the spells which she furiously hoped to teach the second years in Wizard Dueling on the blackboard by hand:

    Oppugno
    Duro
    Confundo
    Incarcarous

Of course, more spells would come later on, but she would just begin with these four in the next couple of lessons. Today she would begin with Oppognu. It could always come in handy in a duel. She knew so because it had once saved her own life.

Alexis walked into the class, right on time for once.
'Good Morning, Professor.' she greeted cheerfully. Oppugno, Duro...wow! It's gonna be fun! I hope I do well...

Isobel slid into the classroom and was glad to see that she was one of the first to arrive. She smiled shyly at the professor and the other girl.

"Hello." she said rather simply, in a dreamy voice. She took a seat in the back corner of the classroom and pulled out a few books from the library on wizard dueling. She flicked through them- she memorized them before hand. She practiced the wand movements to the four spells on the board underneath her desk. She hoped to please the professor, and excel in this subject.

Anna walked into the class, looking around for people she recognized. She saw Alexis and Belle, and she simply decided to sit next to Belle, since they were housemates and all.

"Hey Belle!" she smiled, sitting down next to her. "What's up?"

She then waved her arms around to Alexis, and smiled softly at her.

"Hello, Anna. I'm just flicking through some of these books." she said, gesturing to the pile of books on her desk.

"How has your day been?" she smiled.

    She looked at Alexis curiously.

    "Hello." she called softly.

Alexis waved back at Anna, then smiled at Isobel, "Hello, so its Belle, isn't it? I'm Alexis. You can call me Alex if you want." she said in a low voice. She wasn't sure how the professor will take them talking among themselves. She seemed pretty no nonsense type.

As Tobi walked into the dueling class he looked at what was written on the board.

This should be interesting, he thought as he found a seat and sat down.

She smiled at the other Hufflepuff boy.

"10 to Hufflepuff. In most cases this will work best with conjured objects or creatures. Who knows what Duro is being used for?"

Iris walked into the class and she heard the Professor ask a question. "Duro is a transforming spell used to transfigure objects into stone." She replied. Knowing that she was late in signing up for the class, she said, "Sorry Professor, but I signed up late. Can I still join?"

"This lesson has already begun, Ms. Grayson," Professor Minerva said. "I don't tolerate anyone coming into the classroom in the middle of it. Your answer is correct, but no points will be given to your House since I would have to take them away already again because you're late. As for joining this class, I'll ask you to talk to the Headmaster about that. If he agrees, then I'll be willing to still accept you. Now, sit down or leave my classroom. I suggest you read through my class rules as well. Now... What about Confundo?" Professor Minerva asked, moving to sit on the edge of her desk as was usual for her. Hopefully the not so restricted position behidn the desk would make her pupils see that she wasn't as bitchy as many thougth her to be. However, rules needed be followed. This was not a chicken pen.

"I'm so sorry Professor," Iris apologized. "I'll talk to the Headmaster first thing after the class gets over." She quickly took a seat and asked with a sheepish smile. "Um, may I please answer that?"

"It is a charm that causes inflicted confusion to the target," Iris replied. Note to self, never be late for Dueling, she thought. She didn't want the Professor to get a bad impression of her because of her lateness.

"Correct," Professor Minerva said. "20 to Gryffindor. Now who knows what Incarcarous is meant for before we go over to learn how to cast these spells?"

Knowing the answer to that as well, Iris raised her hand. She hoped the Professor would let her answer.

"Aye," Professor Minerva said. "Another 20 to Gryffindor. Now, we'll begin with learning how to cast Oppugno. I'll assume that all of you know how to cast a simple Protego Charm? Is anyone willing to oppose me and cast a Protego Charm to defend themselves so that I can show you before we split up in pairs and practice?"

Alessa knocked and peeked, carefully walking towards the Professor while handling a small piece of parchment stating why she was late. "My parents had to take me for a while - my sister got sick, and needed a blood donation," she said in a hushed voice, looking down. Well, if I ever lose points, I'll blame my parents.

Professor Minerva nodded, accepting the girl's parchment and reading through it. "Please be seated."

Alessa smiled and nodded, then took a seat beside Alexis. She smiled a bit and immediately took her wand out, and listened attentively.

Tobi didn't see anyone else volunteering to be the target so he decided he might as well.

"Umm Professor I wouldn't mind helping you out on this" he replied.
